Default Thermostat Housing Cover Leak -'95 Accord

Hi, I have a '95 Accord EX 4-cyl coupe that overheated yesterday. Checked it out today, and found a hole in the thermostat housing cover, just a couple inches below the bleeder bolt.

My question is, could I replace this housing fairly easily myself? It looks like the replacement part is pretty cheap online, but I don't want to get halfway into taking my car apart and realize I'm in over my head.

I also am worried that another part could be faulty as well. The temp gauge on my dash is accurately reading the engine, the coolant leak is just absurdly fast. I think this means that the thermostat itself is fine, but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions or info would be appreciate!

It's easy. but if your going to change the housing you might as well change the thermostate at the same time... it's only a couple of dollars more and you'll save your self a headache later

Ps. be carefull not to over tighten the bolts on the housing or they will snap fairly easy...

If you want to change thermostat, buy OEM, some people have trouble with aftermarket.

Mine leaked a little (96 Accord) and I just changed the gasket. I also noticed that the rubber hoses were hard and leaking pretty bad, so I went ahead and change those items as well. Look for signs of coolant leak. These hoses must be flexible, not stiff.

Check your radiator to see if there's cracks on the plastics.

If anything, pressure test your system by renting a cooling system pressure tester with the appropriate adapters from Autozone.

Thank you both! I will look at replacing the thermostat along with the housing. The hoses all seem to be in good condition, and the radiator is only a couple years old, so I'm fairly certain there are no cracks there. The hole in the housing cover is so big that I don't think any other leaks that might exist will be obvious until I replace the cover.
