No air coming out of '96 Accord defrost vents...
I just purchased a used '96 Honda Accord in September. Seems every day I find something else wrong with it. Bummer. Though I guess that's to be expected from a 12-year-old car.
As the weather has gotten colder in the past few days, I've noticed my front window stays foggy when I'm driving, like it won't defrost. Which obviously isn't safe, as it's hard to see. The back window defrosts just fine. The AC works, the heat works.
I just read the manual and went out to the car, followed the instructions for defrosting. When I did this, I noticed that there isn't any air coming from any of the six defrost vents (the four long skinny vents at the base of the dash, and the two on either side toward the front), even though the defrost button is selected.
The rest of the vents seem to work. Though I'm not able to choose whether I want air at my feet or at the dash. When I press those buttons nothing happens, the air just comes out all of the vents (except the defrost vents, of course). This I don't really mind though.
I just had to replace the transmission in the car and can't really afford to spend much more at the moment. I'm assuming this would be a pretty expensive thing to fix? If it's even fixable? Any idea how much it would cost to have a mechanic fix it? I guess I'll just start carrying a rag in the car and wipe off the window before I start driving.

Until you can save the "scratch" to get it fixed, try this.
Clean the inside of the windshield really well and apply rain-x to the inside.
The watsr's going to sheet off so be prepared to sop it up somehow, but at least you won't be dealing with streaking.
Let me think about a fix

you will need to check the operation of the mode motor and the linkage i have provided a test for the mode motor and is pretty straight forward
also you can remove the mode motor and manually move the linkage to the dash vents. most likely the mode motor is failed.
or we need to trouble shoot further
