JDM F23A = USDM F23A1?
I emailed a few companies that import the JDM f23a engines and asked them what the HP,trq specs were but they weren't sure....any of you gurus out there know?

Yeah, same here. Every one that I've seen (maybe half dozen or so) listed the specs exactly the same as the USDM F23.

Re: JDM F23A = USDM F23A1? (philadd)
It's not that I don't want it it that my wife's is starting to use oil. In my opinion a swap is a swap. If I drop another f23 in that's fine with me. If I already have the engine out, I might as well drop something in that makes more power and "should" have less miles like the JDM engines "claim" to have. It looks like my 2 options are either another f23 or an h22.....the f23's are a bit less expensive then the h22's oh well.

the only differences are the valve cover and the ecu tune.
BUT DO NOT let yourself think that the difference in the tune is going to make a bit of difference over here. for the most part, Japan is closer to sea level than most of us in the US. that allows for a different tune, that grabs a couple extra hp.
Not going to be any difference in the usdm and jdm that matters.

I would say keep looking for another f23. If they're only "a bit" less expensive than H22s in your area, you can find a one much cheaper somewhere else and spend quite a bit less, even after shipping.

People commonly mistake PS numbers to be the same as HP numbers, but in fact PS numbers are not quite the same. They're very very close, but PS numbers are just a tad higher. Many, many websites incorrectly label the power levels as HP when it's actually PS. This might be the case with these numbers.
I have never heard that it had 9.8:1 compression. The sources that I saw back in the day all said 9.3:1. HOWEVER... Many JDM motors have a slightly higher compression ratio, and also less emissions equipment. Those two combined with the different gas available in Japan could possibly account for 8 extra HP.
Therein lies the problem with internet sources... You can't really tell if the information is accurate or not. As for now, I'm still skeptical that the JDM F23 makes 158 HP and at 9.8:1 compression.

Re: JDM F23A = USDM F23A1? (philadd)
The thing is is that that if it does make 8 HP more it does so at 5700 RPM's....my car doesn't see above 3k that often....I have a CRX/GSR for those higher revs ....bottom line is, I'm almost in the 200k mile club and SOME time in the future I will need a new engine....if I can get one of the JDM engines for a 100 or 200 more AND it hase more HP, even if it is 8, I'd rather go that way. If the USDM and the JDM are rated the same....why would I spend the extra bones?

I recently swapped an f23a jdm engine in my 98 accord the engine was automatic my car is manual transmission so i made it work lol and now my car pulls pretty good u can feel the difference right away!! Idk the specs but it does feel alittle more powerful than my other engine.

Zombie thread resurrection.
Buuuuut, the only differences are the pistons(slightly higher compression), and upper intake plenum(JDM has less ports due to emissions differences). Speculation says the cam is slightly more aggressive, which is a possibility. My F23A1 swapped car with bolt ons makes pretty decent power, with lots of room to grow.
