Ive been looking at getting an HID kit for my car and cant decide whether to get a philips 4300k or 6000k ($419.99 @ a local shop) or a McCulloch 5000K kit http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1

I have two questions;
1. Do you think the McCulloch product will hold up?
2. Does it matter whether the ignitor is built into the ballasts, or seperate?

to be honest im not so sure how to order something off of a forum. Im one of those people that (besides ebay and choice internet websites) likes to have a "brick and morter" establishment IE: a building with people you can talk to one on one and get any kind isues resloved in a short amount of time.

but thank you for the link, seems like a nice product. is that what your running?

All HID blubs are Xenon (atleast the ones i have been looking at)

Probably same as any D2S bulbs that aren't in proper projectors.

bright as **** compare to halogen bulb? you know how many candle power you lose compare to 4300?

there's no such thing as hid with out glare, you need to set up the whole headlight to max the useful light and min the glare. and it's pretty hard to do so without projector with cut off plate.

1. ummm no, no hid kit will hold up they are all crap
2. nope it doesnt matter
PLZ dont buy a hidkit... youll blind the on coming drivers. Try an retro fit its pretty easy to do and even better then a cheap hidkit, also dont go high on the K you pick. hidplanet.com is a great place to learn up on retro's

I already have prjectors, and i know that the lens quality is not as good as OEM mercedes or BMW they still server there purpouse of having the sharp cut off line as to not blind oncomming drivers.

just curious, but were you comparing his 8000k to a 4300k HID kit?

or were you comparing stock halgon (which isnt 4300k) to his 8000k kit?

3-5k spectrum range will yield more lumens than higher kelvins.

There should be an official HID thread here. Retrofitting is the best way to go. If you don't know what Im talking about you can check out HIDplanet.com/forums
4000K-5000K is the brightest you can find anything lower will be yellowish and anything higher will just be dimmer.

you might be happier wit the 6000k. i guess they look little prettier if thats whut you'd like. and between 4300k and 6000k as far as light output, not sure if you can tell the diff. a whole bunch.

I didnt have a good experience with McCulloch hid kits. i had an 8,000K set 5-6 years ago and one of the bulbs went out for whutever reason. and before that set i had a XENON brand hid kit that had a ballast go out. so yeah, gotta retro now.
