Default How do I vaccum test the EGR valve

Sorry to have another one of those semmingly endless EGR questions...

98 J30 167K

CEL EGR Insufficient Flow. Preformed the TSB by taking off the manifold and cleaned the EGR port out good. It was real clogged. Put it all back together and the CEL came back on.

So I read to vaccum check the EGR valve. I was looking at the EGR valve itself and it doesn't appear to have any vaccum lines running to it. I did see a little bit more down the line a circular diaphragm device with vaccum lines running to it. Is this the device I am supposed to test? I tried hooking it up to the pump and pumped 8in and it did nothing. So I think the valve is bad but just wanted to make sure before going and blowing $100 on a new valve.

If I did not test the right device, how would I test the actual EGR valve?

Which code does it have: p0401 or p1491?

And the CEL came right back on??.. Or did it take a few days or miles??.. But yeah, according to those EGR bulletins, you're suppose to replace to valve and clean the ports.. What I usually do is, after cleaning the port, I remove the EGR valve and start the car up and let it idle for a few seconds. This helps clean out the EGR port so that I don't get any debris stuck into the new valve.

And by the way, I don't think it's a $100 for the EGR valve. Maybe if you buy it without the kit it might be. But last time I did one, the kit only cost like $50 and that's because Honda has to pay for it too sometimes. You luck out and get to pay the same price Honda does.
