Honda accord 1993 automatic transmission shift issues

Re: Honda accord 1993 automatic transmission shift issues
Mad Mike - Nope never found it - was up there looking a number of times. Had everything pulled out (needed to do that anyway to replace the TCU). May do it one more time - but since the car is running good not essential now.
For HondaGirl1991- no idea if your problem is the TCU. If it is grinding would think it is something mechanical

First check your transmission fluid level. Turn the car on, place it in every gear for 5 seconds. Then check the fluid level. Pull the dipstick, wipe it off, reinsert, and pull it again. It should be with-in the hatch marks.

Re: Honda accord 1993 automatic transmission shift issues
Hey guys usually I come across these thread s and find my answer but I'm having the same issue with my 1993 honda accord se. Drained the transmission, it shifts a lot better now, but at 70mph it's revving at almost 3200-3300 rpm. I've only had toyota and none of which has given me any types of problems like this so I'm pretty much blind. It is an automatic with D4. The p and D4 light do not come on at the same time but after about 5 minutes of driving over 60mph the check engine light does visit every so often.

Irrelevant but I should add, my 1992 toyota celica 1.6 is at 3,000 rpm at 70mph, with 300, xxx miles, 95 camry at 2 500 rpm at 70

Check for vacuum leaks.
Check for coolant leaks around the FITV.
Verify the coolant system is properly bled. Get a two foot piece of clear nylon hose, attach it to the bleed screw on the thermostat housing(when cold) and crack open the bleeder. There should be bubble free coolant.

He's talking about the Transmission Control Unit, which is the computer that controls the transmission operation. It's a very common problem on 1990-1993 Accords. If you open up the unit you want to look for any burnt spots on the PC board around the capacitors(it's located behind the passenger's floor board and it's the bronz colored computer). It's usually one corner of the TCU that fails. It can be repaired, by me if you choose for about $80.00. I use better quality components to repair the TCU than what's installed. Check your codes as well. If you have shift solenoid codes you'll want to test them. Sometimes they fail which then causes the TCU to fail. If you don't fix the solenoids, the problem with the TCU will return. If you need any help diagnosing the solenoids I can help you with that.
