91 Accord Wagon brakes
what needs to be replaced if the brakes gradually tighten as the car is driven? when the car is cranked up and i start to drive, all is okay, very little pressure on gas pedal and the car moves. when the engine is warmed up and i press on the brakes, the car stops as normal, but it takes more and more gas pedal to keep moving, the rpm's go up but the speed stays low. already replaced front calipers, pad, hoses and fluid. brake still applies by itself. 91 accord ex wagon, auto, 64,000 miles.

Re: 91 Accord Ex AT Wagon brakes
1. what makes a car come to a complete stop, heating up the wheels when pedals and e-brake are not used? car is in drive, automatic transmission, ignition is on, car will not move until gas pedal is pressed almost to the floor. car only has 64000 actual miles and is driven up to 50 miles a week. when cold, car idles normally, runs at about 2000 rpm at 50mph or so. when hot, after using brakes for stop lights and such, rpms push close to 5000 at 30! and if i release the brake pedal, the car comes to a stop in a lot less than 100 feet.
2. was alerted to last occurrence, the car had been driven about 25 miles on highway, up to 50mph, stopping occasionally for traffic and lights. tried to accelerate at green light, it seemed that it was all the car could to reach 35 mph with the pedal to the floor, felt a clunk and car accelerated then started to slow down on its own. when i pulled over and turned car off, massive heat coming thru the wheels and smoke from under the hood.
3. master cylinder, brake booster, proportioning valve all original - could one be the culprit?
4. transmission shifts fine when cold

brakes have mind of their own
1991 Accord EX AT Wagon, under 65000 actual miles. up until recently (last week), if my foot was removed from the pedals, the car would coast for days. but now when the car is hot and the brakes have been used, i can take my foot off the gas pedal and the car stops by itself, the foot pedal and the e-brake are not applied. the last time the car was turned off, the front wheels were very hot to the touch and steam was coming out of the grill. just had new pads, calipers and front hoses installed, rotors still in spec. any ideas?

heat it up and pull off the wheels and see if the caliper is locked onto the pads, could be the caliper piston or the slide pins, or could even be a collapsed brake hose

Re: 91 Accord Wagon brakes
1. how can a bad transmission or bad ATF fluid cause the brakes to gradually tighten on the rotors?
2. had new pads installed, new master cylinder, new booster and new fluid flushed thru the system.
the car handles like it did before the initial lock-up. i guess age rather than wear was the culprit.

if it's the proportioning valve then only the rear will be locking up
