1996 Honda Accord that starts then dies immediately

Re: 1996 Honda Accord that starts then dies immediately
Do either of you have any stored codes-the 95 is OBDI and the 96 is OBDII but still have the connector under the glove box.
When the car(s) stop running, need to find out what is missing-spark or fuel.
Honda-your post is a bit confusing. You say it is an auto but dies when you hit the clutch? Also the tach acting up leads me to think you have an ICM/ignitor issue...one of the wires drives the tach.
Doug-try wiggling the key when running, does that cause the car to die? Or, if you hold the key "slightly" forward after cranking, will it stay running. Neither are a true test but might give some clues.

If you can hold the key "slightly" forward and it stays running, then yes I would suspect that the contacts in the electrical part of the ign switch are going/gone bad and a replacement is needed.

i am also having similar problems, i have a 1995 honda accord lx, swapped it to a standard trans. from a 95 prelude a few months ago and was running fine. recently started acting up, having to keep trying to start it like 10 or 15 times till it catches and stays on. been reading the forums and getting advice but so far no luck. i have checked the fuel pump and it works fine, inspected and cleaned the key ignition contacts, inspected the distributor and had to replace the inner seal, installed a new main relay, checked for spark and fuel pressure and they're good, everything seems fine but still it happens. i'm thinking the problem could be between the ignition and distributor ?
