Honda-your post is a bit confusing. You say it is an auto but dies when you hit the clutch? Also the tach acting up leads me to think you have an ICM/ignitor issue...one of the wires drives the tach.

Doug-try wiggling the key when running, does that cause the car to die? Or, if you hold the key "slightly" forward after cranking, will it stay running. Neither are a true test but might give some clues.
i have a 94 honda does the samthing, but i did like you said hold the key slightly forward and it stays running. So one the the soder connections is bad on the ignition?

If you can hold the key "slightly" forward and it stays running, then yes I would suspect that the contacts in the electrical part of the ign switch are going/gone bad and a replacement is needed.

Did you figure out the issue? I have a 1995 Accord Manual and it is having the same issue. I've done the same things. I also replaced the distributor. No change. Starts and dies...then starts with lots of sputtering every once in awhile. It's driving me crazy.
