1996 Honda Accord - Key won't turn in ignition
I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX (4Cyl 2.2L - Engine).
Can the ignition lock cylinder be removed and replaced from the ignition lock assembly (lock cylinder, ignition switch, and wire connections) or does the assembly have to be replaced for my car? If the lock cylinder can be removed and replaced, any instructions would be helpful.
The usual suspects have been checked. The steering wheel is not locked, the gear shift is fully in park. I can eventually get the key to turn with minutes of wiggling the key so I am pretty sure it is a problem with the cylinder lock/tumblers. The key goes in and comes out of the ignition easily.
I have removed the upper and lower steering column covers and took a look at things. I was not able to see how the metal "bezel" cover (?) (that has the key position marks on it) comes off the assembly so the cylinder could come out.
I have seen other posts and videos on how to remove and replace the entire assembly but have not seen anything on just removing and replacing the lock cylinder for my model and year. I have the service manual for my car and that does not address removing just the lock cylinder either.

It may not be the cylinder is bad, did you check that the shifter cable is properly adjusted?

Thanks for the response Mad Mike.
Based on your web page link, isn't the shifter cable adjustment more applicable to when the key is stuck in the ignition? I can move the key in and out of the ignition without any issues. Starting a few days ago, the key won't turn without jiggling for several minutes. Eventually, I am afraid it won't turn at all.

Its the same for most cars. Buy another lock cylinder for your model. When you look at it you will see a pin that needs to be pushed in while the key is in the correct position(normally the 1 position).
Just play with the new one and you will get it/figure out what im saying.
Then put key in the the old lock cylinder, turn it to the 1 postion, stick either a paperclip or a pick into the hole in the old lock cylinder and push the pin in while pulling the key and the old lock cylinder out with it.
Then just slide the new one in.
The pin hole is always in a weird spot.

Huh, must have glazed over that part.
Is your key worn?
Pull the cylinder out, there is a description in that link I posted and what holmesmanny said.
On older GM columns when the key would eat itself the shavings would all end up in the tumbler jamming it up. Would just pull out the tumbler, invert it and bang it on the ground, a nice pile of brass key shavings would come out and the tumbler would work again. Although you would need a new key.
I would check all the other stuff while you are in there, from the shifter cable to the ignition switch.
