Has this happened to you? headstuds pulling out the threads.
Well I`m trying to put together my new motor and starting to torque down the headstuds which are ARP and it ended up pulling out the threads. Now my question is what would a good fix be for this problem (1) re-tap the hole or (2) put oversized arp stud in that one hole oh and do they make a oversized stud that would fit the b18b block early thanks for any info u guys

Best repair would be to heli-coil the bolt hole,that way it stays factory size.How did you pull the threads out?overtighten?

I went through the same thing.
I had the block helicoiled and the helicoils wouldn't hold...it lifted the head a week later
my machinist made some custom inserts out of a threaded solid steel rod.
basically he took the rod and cut it into pieces and drilled and tapped the inside to the arp thread, then got the tap for the outside thread and we tapped the block and locktited them in.
and since the inserts are steel, its bites the aluminum pretty well.

ya you don't want helicoils. too weak. Timeserts or the like are much stronger. They are kinda like the inserts the guy above had made.

Yes timeserts are better then heli-coils,but if installed corectly heli-coils are strong enough for head studs,and is a cheaper fix.Where you using bolts or studs when they pulled the heli-coils?Bolts will definetly put more stress on the threads.

was using studs problem with helicoils is they are aluminum, so they aren't the best choice for the pressures that they see in holding a head down.
timserts are another choice, only reason I couldn't is b/c the helicoils required drilling and when we went to use timeserts they were too small.
and they don't make the larger "bigserts" or "kingserts" or whatever they are called in the size for our headstuds.
