Need some help with H22 main bearings and clearances
Hey guys..
I hope you can help me with my problems.
I´m building a H22A2 FI engine with ACL std. duraglide bearings. Today I measured the main bearing clearances with plastigages. Theese are the results:
main 1 ~0,042mm (service limit is 0,05mm)
main 2 ~0,042mm (service limit is 0,05mm)
main 3 ~0,045mm (service limit is 0,055mm)
main 4 ~0,040mm (service limit is 0,05mm)
main 5 ~0,039mm (service limit is 0,04mm)
Since it is a FI engine I should be more on the looser side but I think it´s too loose. What do you think? ( The car is daily driven with a jackson racing supercharger)
If the clearances are too loose I would like to use some OEM bearings. I´ve seen the b series main bearing chart on the lsakeyracing webside. Do you know if there is such a chart for H22 bearings aivailable? I´would like to know what bearing color is what size. I´ve heard (for b series engines) the std. ACL duraglide bearings are the same as the green colored OEM bearings, is that true? So what color has the H22 OEM bearing which has the same measurement like the ACLs`?
I hope you can help me with my problems.

Re: Need some help with H22 main bearings and clearances
that sounds find to me.
im running my clearances at .0015 and .0017 on all the mains. (thats in inches not mm).
all of mine are oem pinks.
rods are clearanced at .0018" with all greens.
goodluck, we are both at the same spot in our builds haha

Re: Need some help with H22 main bearings and clearances
here is the h22 color VS thickness. (in inches. just multiply them by 25.4 to get mm)
blue .0793-.0791
black .0791-.0790
brown .0790-.0789
green .0789-.0788
yellow .0788-.0787
pink .0787-.0785
red .0785-.0783
this is how i got my bearing color calculation:
for example, this is my #1 main:
main bore: 2.3240
crank journal: 2.165
2.3240 - 2.165 = .1590 total clearance without bearings.
.1590 minus your target clearance (mine was .0015ish) = .1575
.1575 divided by 2 (because there are 2 bearing halfs) = .07875
.07875 = a yellow bearing, i went a little looser with a pink. so my clearance on that main will be .0017"
THIS IS ALL IN INCHES, NOT MILIMETERS.
i hope it helps a bit. i used a dial bore gauge and some micrometers to blueprint the sizes of my block. you should do the same. i am going to plasti gauge them as well once they come in from the dealership.
rule of thumb= .001" per 1inch of journal. im a bit tighter than that, but im barely out to the loose spec according to the honda service manual. should be good.

in my case the acl races would have worked, but the regular acl's would have been too tight. but since they are on backorder i just went with oem

Re: Need some help with H22 main bearings and clearances
thax eg6-jarhead. I also measured the bore and the journals with micrometers and dial gauges and than I double checked the results with the plastigauges. I´ve build several B series engines but this is my first H engine so I had to ask for the OEM bearing specs since I couldn´t find a chart anywhere. All clearances on my B series engines came out fine with the ACL duraglide bearings but this time it supposed to be a little too loose in my opinion thats why I wanted to share my results with you guys :-)
