82 civic head issues
bought the car yesterday for cheap. had a timing issue i was told. brought it home, pulled the timing belt off, started to bring the cam to tdc but the kid i bought the car from used the wrong hardware, so it broke.
with the half ***-ness ive seen already, i am going to assume there is more trouble down the road.
what head can fit the 1500 motor? i would like to move to fuel injection and dump the carb. I have a good grasp of the scope of work, and am a fairly capable mechanic. What top end can i bolt to the 1500? higher compression the better. no power goals, just a reliable runner.

Re: 82 civic head issues
which engine code do you have? i would assume since its a 1500, its probably an EM1, in which case you should probably look for an EM1 cylinder head
i would pretty much give up on the fuel injection idea. to make it work, you're gonna have more than the cars value in doing so. ditch the stock carb, de-vac. it, and throw on a Weber 32/36DGEV.

Re: 82 civic head issues
i was thinkin about just throwing a new head on it, but i want fuel injection and v-tec.
I want to know if any d-series heads are interchangeable on the em1 block. ive been reading, but havent found my answer.

Re: 82 civic head issues
unless you can hand fabricate an intake manifold, its pretty much pointless to discuss fuel injection. you cant have VTEC on those engines. you'd have to change the entire engine to get that.
not to sound like a *****, but if you're looking for those things, you are better off selling the car and getting a newer honda. not saying you cant swap something into it, its obviously been done before.
most people that would be looking for an early 80s civic(which is a pretty small list) arent looking for fuel injection and vtec, so if you ever plan to sell it then i would keep that in mind.
as far as the E series and D series, they ARE NOT the same...
