Re: Help: Installing Hella Twin Horn. (accord-euro-r)
accord-euro-r was asking me for details for how i did this install, so here goes.
External Sources:
I used these directions to remove the bumper.
I used these directions to see how they did their horn install and where to mount my horns.
Horns
I orderd a set of the Hella Supertone Horns from Susquehana Motorsports in PA for $67.50 shipped.
They came with the following:
1 x 500 MHz Horn
1 x 300 MHz Horn
1 x 30 AMP Bosch Style Relay
1 x Page of wire connection instructions from Hella
1 x Page of wire connection instructions from Susquehana Motorsports
Extra Materials Needed
10 Feet of wire, I used Black 14 guage
EXPRESS SEAL (16-14) BUTT CONNECTOR 10 PCS, Part Number: 095-912 from www.partsexpress.com (click on link)
3M 1/4" (16-14) M-DISCONNECT 50 PCS, Part Number: 082-642 from www.partsexpress.com (click on link)
Tools Used
Bumper Removal:
Jack (Jacking it up makes it 10 times easier to do install)
Jack Stands (Jacking it up makes it 10 times easier to do install)
Hand Tools are Sufficient
Ratchet
12mm Socket
Phillips Head Screwdriver
Horn Install:
Hand Tools
Ratchet
10mm Socket
Wiring
I used the basic diagram from Susquehana Motorsports, see it here, but since I checked that the horn already has a 20 amp factory fues, i decided to not use a relay. So I just did a direct connection and excluded the relay but connecting the wires that would hook upto pin 87 and 86 together.
Setp By Step
1. Removed Bumper
2. Unscrew Horn
3. Cut the wire that went to the horn (not disconnect but cut)
4. Make two identical copies of the following: disconnect terminal on one end of a 8 inch wire and the other end stripped about 2 inches.
5. Connect the wires from step 4 to either (but same on both horns) terminal from the horn.
6. For passenger side horn, mount horn and wrap the 2 inch lead around the mounting screw for a ground.
For drivers side, unscrew one of the screws on that side that you can use to mount the horn and wrap the 2 inch lead around the mounting screw for a ground.
7. Make a wire about 8 inches in length with a disconnect terminal on one end and the other with about 1/2 an inch of insulation stripped.
8. Connect wire from step seven to the open terminal from the passenger side horn.
9. Make a wire about 4 foot in length with a disconnect terminal on one end and the other with about 1/2 an inch of insulation stripped.
10. Connect wire from step seven to the open terminal from the drivers side horn.
11. Coonect the stipped ends of wires from steps 7 & 9
