Default My EF "De-Rice" Build

Car: 1989 Honda Civic Si
My ef was given to me as a high school graduation present on JUNE 06 it wasnt really the car i wanted but just went for it and kept it plus it was an Si who can say no to a Si. After a couple of weeks of driving it i fell in love with it. It handled very well, saved alot of gas, compact, and had pretty good throttle response. So heres my build from day one

HERE IT IS WHEN I GOT IT LOOKS OK AND ALL BUT TOO RICY I HATED THE BODY KIT AND EVEYRONE ON THE STREET WANTED TO RACE AND COPS KEPT PULLING ME OVER THINKING I WAS A STREET RACER

Couple weeks later the stock d16a6 started to give me problems,
so the hunt began for a B16A
STOCK

THE TARE DOWN

OLD

PURCHASED THE ENGINE OFF A GUY WHO WAS PARTING OUT HIS EF
NEW

WEN I STARTED DROPPING IT IN I RAN INTO A COUPLE PROBLEMS. THE ALTERNATOR BELT WAS HITTING THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WELL, THE FRONT ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET WOULD HIT THE BLOCK & THE PULLEY WOULD SCRAPE THE RADIUS BAR

SO TO FIX IT: FOR THE ALT. BELT SCRAPING I JUST GRINDED DOWN THE WHEEL WELL SIDE ENOUGH SO IT WONT SCRAPE, FOR THE MOUNT BRACKET I JUST BENT IT BACK & FOR THE PULLEY HITING THE RADIUS BAR I WENT TO THE JUNKYARD AND GOT A RADIUS BAR OFF A 90-93 ACCORD CAUSE IT HAS A BEND ON IT AND MODIFIED THE BRACKET WHERE THE WHOLES GO & VUAHLA NO MORE SCRAPING
IN

I DECIDED TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF BRAKE UPGRADE SO I PUT ON SOME INTEGRA REAR TRAILING ARMS WITH DISK BRAKES AND NEW 40/40 PROP VALVE*ONLY PIC I GOT*

ENGINE IN AND RUNNING PUT A COUPLE OF GOODIES IN:
NGK SPARK PLUG WIRES, NGK SPARK PLUGS, KAMIKAZE HEADERS 4-1, EBAY INTAKE, BREATHERS, & TIMING BELT COVER

THEN THE DE-RICE-ING BEGAN
FRONT BUMPER, FENDERS, AND SIDE SKIRTS

THEN DOOR MOLDINGS AND REAR BUMPER

AFTER ALL BODY KIT WAS OFF
BRINGS A SMILE TO MY FACE

LATER ON I CAME UP ON SOME
JDM TAILIGHTS AND A BETTER REAR BUMPER

.......I THOUGHT IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN BUT......
A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER I WAS TAKING MY GF HOME AND SOME LADY CUT ME OFF FROM THE RIGHT AND I ENDED UP HITTING HER CAR
HERES HOW MY CAR WAS LEFT

WHEN I BROUGHT IT HOME I TRIED TO FIX THE HOOD AND BUMPER A LITTLE
FIXED??

THAT NIGHT I THOUGHT ABOUT MY CAR REAL HARD IF I SHOULD KEEP IT AND FIX IT OR JUST SELL IT AND START ALL OVER AGAIN.... WELL I DECIDED TO KEEP IT I CONVINCED MY SELF "THIS CAR NEVER GAVE UP ON ME SO Y SHOULD I GIVE UP ON IT" PLUS ITS MY FIRST CAR, I DONT WANT TO END IT LIKE THIS

SO THE SEARCH BEGAN, I LOOKED HIGH AND LOW ON THE NET FOR A JDM FRONT, TOOK ME A FULL MONTH BUT WITH A LITTLE PATIENCE I FOUND IT FOR 1/2 THE MSRP

JDM FENDERS, SIDE MARKERS, HOOD, BUMPER, BUMPER SUPPORT, BUMPER FILLER, & HEAD LIGHTS...LATER ON I BOUGHT THE BUMPER LIGHTS, LIP, AND CRX T-BAR

PAINTED AND CHANGED THE HOOD ASAP

BEFORE I PUT THE JDM FRONT I HAD TO SEARCH FOR A RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT CAUSE THE ONE IT HAD WAS ALL BENT UP

BOUGHT A JDM EF1 RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT W/ THE VIN PLATE STILL ON

AFTER I REMOVED IT FROM THE FRAME IT CAME WITH

THEN I CLEANED UP BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR FROM ALL THE BONDO HELL IT HAD FROM THE BODY KIT BEING MOLDED ON, FYI IT TOOK ME 6 HOURS TO TAKE IT ALL OFF

NOW THAT EVERYTHING WAS THERE I JUMPED ON IT... JDM FRONT BEGINS
HOW IT LOOKED WEN I STARTED

TOOK OFF THE
BUMPER, FILLER, LIGHTS, T-BAR & FENDERS

AFTER AN HOUR OF DRILLING THE OLD RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT IT CAME OFF
THE NEW ONE ALONG WITH THE T-BAR

WEN I TEST FITTED AND ALIGNED IT I WELDED IT IN PLACE AND STARTED PUTTING ON PARTS
FENDERS L&R W/ SIDEMARKERS

BUMPER FILLER

BUMPER W/LIP

HEAD LIGHTS & BUMPER LIGHTS

I HAD A COUPLE THINGS LAYING AROUND SO I WENT AHEAD AND PUT EM ON
EF9 VIN PLATE

TYPE R VALVE COVER WITH SPOON OIL CAP

I ALSO UPGRADED MY SHOCKS AND SPRINGS, THE OEM SHOX WERE LEAKING AND THE SPRINGS IM GUESSING WERE EBAY ONES THEY WERE JUST TOO BOUNCY AND THE BEST PART THEY WERE BEING HELD IN PLACE WITH CHICKEN WIRE LOL NICE
EIBACH SPRINGS MATED WITH TOKICO ILLUMINAS

INNOVATIVE MOUNTS TRACTION BAR

COMPARED TO THE STOCK ONE

RADIATOR RESERVOIR TANK LABLE

SPOON SHIFT ****

RAZO MIRROR

REPLACE THE DOOR HANDLES TO THE EF 4DOOR NO KEY HOLE HANDLE ONES, I SPOTTED SOME ONE @ MY JOB TRYING TO OPEN MY CAR WITH THEIR HONDA KEY SO JUST THOUGHT THAT WOULD ADD SOME EXTRA SECURITY
BEFORE

AFTER

BOUGHT A JDM WING AND REPLACED THAT AFTERMARKET ONE I HAD, THE JDM ONE HAD RUSTED HARDWARE SO I FABBED SOME UP
BEFORE

AFTER

CAME UP ON SOME MUDFLAPS
USDM FRONT MUDFLAPS

USDM EF 4 DOOR REAR MUDFLAPS MODIFIED

AFTER THE WHOLE DE-RICE PROCESS

Very nice and sorry to hear about the damage. So how do you open the doors? I'm assuming remote locks.

Any plans for interior?

the second part about the accord radius rod doesn't seem safe to me, I don't see why you would need to get a different radius rod to fit a Bseries or any other motor for that matter, what makes your car different?

Its always better to keep these cars and just help them along then to get rid of them. Keep them nice. Its a cheap way to have a great car that will always be an absolute joy to drive.

Good job with the transformation from rice to nice..

Keep it up.

for the alt. yeah i should of done dat but ohh well its delt with

for the radius rod i put it cause the engine mounts i have sit the engine low and also the shox where blown so wen i would hit a bump or anything of that matter the car would slam to the floor making the pulley hit the stock radius bar
as for safe ive had it for a year with new bushings and a couple of 1 1/2'' washers and the innovative mount traction bar and hasnt given me any problems and aligns perfect
