I recently have this problem that when I am at low rpm's and stepping on gas the engine jerks a little bit. This problem started about 2 weeks ago when it started to rain. My usually driving habit is shifting at low rpm's below 3000. When I shift to 1st gear and step on the gas the engine jerks a little. Same thing happens when I shift to 2nd and 3rd at low rpm. This also happens when I down shift at lower speeds and step on the gas. It feels like the engine is having a hard time accelerating when I step on the gas. Awhile ago I tried doing a burn out/quick take off but the engine won't respond, it is too slow. There is no CEL.

My car is a manual 99 civic lx recently swapped with a 00 b12a2 in July. Mileage is 95k and I have not done a major tune up yet. Could this be a timing issue? Also, sometimes my idle is above 1000 rpm and sometimes it is below 1000 rpm.

UPDATE:

Spark plugs was causing the problem. Car is running and pulling normal now.

check voltage at the tps sensor. make sure you get a nice linear sweep from closed throttle to wide open throttle. About .5 volt a idle to 4.5 volts/ WOT...

Also check your cap and rotor, plug wires, these things can also cause that problem.

Ok thanks. i will check the wires and caps. For the TPS sensor I dont have a voltage reader yet, will check that tomorrow.

would you guys think it's the harmonic balancer? i have a similar problem with mine, but i've replaced my whole ignition system, the car is tuned. AFR's don't jerk around

and motor "wobbles" real bad

sounds like your typical ignition related problem.

Yeah, 10 year old cap,rotor,and plugs could def be the culprit...
Gotta love hondas and their ability to go forever with little to no maintenance.

i would almost say an engine mount could cause it too.
but it would do it all the time.

An engine mount wouldn't cause it but it would magnify the problem.

If it's the harmonic balancer causing it you have big troubles ahead... I usually found that if the air fuel was a little lean in areas, it would cause that to happen.

ok I think it the TPS. I bought a multimeter and did some search on how to measure the volt but Im not getting any reading. I might be doing it wrong. I might just buy a new tps and take it to a shop.

i would check the resistance on that TPS.

Just an update. Problem is fixed.

I went to a shop and they said it was not the TPS. It was the ignition coil and the spark plugs needs to be replaced.

I replaced the ignition coil and it did not fix it.

I replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires and the problem was gone. The car runs fine now.
