Ep1 bought without oil in it
Hi everybody
I just bought a 2001 Ep1 with 1.4 sohc no vtec engine.
I didnt checked anything when with the seller, paid for it and drove away (i was in a hurry).
So when i got back home (40 miles away) checked the dipstick and it was having like 1-2 mm oil on it, waaay below the minimum mark.
Topped it up, took a whole 2 liters (afaik, the engine takes 3.3 liters).
Now...
1. What damage could have happened to the engine (revs fine, doesnt smoke, doesnt overheat, pulls ok for 90 hp) with just ~1.3 liters of oil in the engine.
2. Why wasnt there any warning light for low oil? Could the bulb be shot or removed?
3. What are those two things for, circled in the pic?
It is my first Honda, I love it, but don`t know too much about it yet.
Thank you.

Since we didn't get the EP1 chassis in the USA, I won't know everything about your chassis.
As for your requests, the D-series engines can burn a fair amount of oil if they are not properly maintained. But, if its just low, and hasn't been low for long... there really won't be any huge changes in the wear and tear on the engine.
As for the two circled items:
(Near firewall) - Clutch master cylinder fluid reservoir
(Near radiator) - Coolant overflow bottle (presumably)

^^Correct.
I work at Oil Changers here in Canada and I see my fair share of dried up D's. Honda reliability right there.
Just get ur oil change done early for the next few times to help clear out the sludge.

Thank you both.
Isnt the ep1 the same as ep3, its only called ep1 because of the engine, ive seen 2001 civics just like mine with bigger engines advertised as ep3`s.
Anyway, awesome car so far (only done 120 miles so far...and dat 45 mpg).

never knew that chassis came in other trims beside USDM Si and EDM/JDM type r. Looks like it would be a good commuter car/beater. I like the hatch much more than coupe/sedan. Hope everything works out for you.
On a side note a car purchase is never something you should rush. Always at the minimum check the fluids and give the whole car a good walk around. Were any maintenance records included in the sale? Also where are you located, the UK?

Re: Ep1 bought without oil in it
I only ran a text check to see if it was stolen, totaled or is it an insurance writeoff, but none of those, so its a clean car. Also never painted and mileage seems genuine. That was good enough for me.
I have lots of invoices for maintenance and even service history up to 56xxx miles, but the invoices seem dodgy, no stamp on either of them, just a signature, its just like the previous owner stole a bunch of invoices from the front desk while the guy was taking a ****, then filled them up later at home with random service entries and signed them.
Thats why i want to do a cambelt change, because i dont believe it was changed at 56xxx miles, same crappy invoice (and no receipt) for it.
Also yes, uk (another reason not to believe any of that shi...)
