Cliff notes: I discovered that non-R side skirts are NOT shorter than ITR side skirts.

So today I had my passenger side skirt off as I was swapping out my damaged fender from getting side swiped a few weeks back. As we all know, the side skirt comes off by removing the retaining screws and then sliding it forward. That leaves other clips underneath the door. Then you put it back on by putting the side skirt up on the car, and sliding it backwards so it engages the clips.

However today I decided to remove the clips from the car, sliding each clip into place on the side skirt, and then just pushing the side skirt into place on the car. When I did this, I went as I saw that the rear end of the skirt was exactly even with the rear fender arch, just like Integra Type R side skirts!

So it would seem that the statement that non-R skirts are shorter than R skirts is in fact a myth. Here are the pics to prove it.

As you can see here, the front end of the skirt was in place just like it's supposed to be. A screw goes through the mudflap, through the top hole in the side skirt, and into a plastic nut in the metal part behind it (similar to the plastic nut at the top of the pic):


After installing the side skirt, the rear end looked like this:

The driver side still looks like it did before, not quite even with the wheel arch on the rear end. I guess I'll be taking it off and then installing it like I did this one. I guess when you slide it onto the clips to get it back on, it just doesn't slide back far enough to be even with the rear arch.

Now if only I could get after painting these jokers....

and why would itr skirts not be the same length? its the same car, same skirt, just paint matched..

It has long been believed that non-R side skirts were a touch shorter, and don't line up evenly with the rear wheel arch. I'll take a pic of the other side to show you what I mean.

There is no rust there (just checked), and they are staying on because I like the way they look.

appears they are exactly the same as gsr and base model integras

That isn't a typical "weather strip" found on the rear quarter wheel arches (which are the cause of rust and appear to have been remove on Patrick's ride), those are something else that go on the quarter panels themselves.

Nice find Patrick, i've loved your car since you first got it from that grandma down the street Wish I still had mine too. How many miles on her now??

My ITR side skirts are a touch shorter than they should be. I always thought that it was just my car with this problem. Must be a tolerance issue.

i heard that the type r sides are more squared at the ends compared to the others.....is it true?

haha naw it was a mom w/ 3 little kids, she bought it in 94 before she met her husband.

Just turned over 254K miles yesterday, just got 34 mpg after filling up today.

out of all my r's and non-r's for the last 9 years I've never been able to re-install my rocker moldings, factory kits, and paint matched rocker moldings by sliding them on backwards....holy hell!!!

I supposed if you put one of each side by side and directly compared, there might be some difference (aside from ITR ones coming factory-painted), but as far as length goes it looks like there is no difference.
