when should i start worrying about rust?
ok so in december i got in a small fender bender and my driver's side front fender was bent - so we bent it back into shape until i could get money to fix it (we did outside insurance). however, in doing so some of the paint chipped off. anyway, it's been 4 months and i had a bra on the car most of the time covering the exposed metal part but recently it got sunny in SD so i took it off. and then.. it ******* rained~!
but anyway, theres slight oxidation starting on the metal of the fender - now i'm planning on having this repaired in june when i go back home (2 months!). i know rust is always a big worry to people, but repair-wise, how bad would it be that i need to really consider speeding up getting the repair done or having to scrap the entire fender? i'll get pics soon. thanks.

How big of an area is the paint missing??
Either way if you are getting it all fixed I would take some light sand paper and get rid of the rust on the surface, and spray some primer on there to stop any rust forming. You might not even need sand paper, steel wool, or even a rag soaked in WD-40 might work.
If you use WD-40 make sure towas the area down before putting any primer on.

alright. well i was gonna sand off the rust and just fill the **** with touchup paint or dupont because the fender needs to be re-formed anyway so any primer i put on will be taken off - so i might as well just put something that doesn't stand out from 40 miles away.

If it is that smalll an area then just clean it up and put the touch up on. , if was a lot larger thne you could do primer and spray paint over that.
