Transmission leak.. repair or buy a new one?
I have 94 ls manual tranny that is leaking out fluid. It is where the level check plug is on the side of the tranny and it is cracked just on the backside where the plug goes in. should i have it welded or should i try JB weld? or worst do i have to get a new tranny?

I would try JB weld first. Make sure the area is clean. You will need to drain and replace the transmission fluid.

I actually just used JB weld on a crack on my tranmission like 15 minutes ago. I ran over something in a construction zone and it ripped a hole in my transmission. I got it welded shut and then a week later the weld has a crack in it. So i just JB welded that bitch. Hopefully it holds.

Just replace it. JB welding it over and over sucks. I learned this from experience. And most places that will weld it for you are going to charge about the same price as a new tranny anyway.

thanks!! im going to try the JB weld first and see how long it lasts... its a crack about an inch long and about a milimeter thin so it might hold alright... thanks again!!

Drill the end of the crack to stop the propagation. If the crack starts and finishes at an edge, you do not need to drill it, as it will not spread.
