Tranny question. 5 speed ls
I had a 5 speed ls tranny with a cracked case, my mechanic switched all the internals out into a new case, the first time he couldn't get it to go into all gears and reverse with the two washers between the main shaft and bearing (flat washer and spring washer) the ones that act as a dampener. So he put it together without those :hammer but it worked flawlessly for about 4 days, then it stopped going in gear, and when you could get it in, it wouldnt pull.
So he assumed the problem was with the two washers, took it back apart and put them in. I figured the problem was solved and i drove it again for 4 or 5 days...now it goes into all the gears usually but when you release the clutch it makes a pretty bad clunking sound. I checked both axles and they seem fine. Today I am going to pull them and then start it and let the clutch out and see if it still does it (to pinpoint the problem to the tranny). Does anyone have any info/advice? I don't know if something else is causing my problems or what? I am thinking of getting a different *used* tranny but I dont want the same thing to happen. anyone??? help please!

Re: Tranny question. 5 speed ls (94lsboost)
Sorry, I don't know much about tranny's, but I don't think it's a good idea to pull the axles and run the car... all the fluid will come out and you might cause more damage. Hope you get it it figured out.

yeah I know it isn't particularly good, but as long as it is on jack stands and only for like 10 seconds to test, it will be ok...hopefully....
