Default Tach Problem

When I bought my 97 Integra it came with a 5" autometer tach with shiftlight. We'll I've been having problems with the stock and aftermarket tach. They're both messed up. The autometer tach is 500rpm's higher than the stock. When I bring up the rpm's both of the tachs just go crazy. They'll both go like up to 9k rpms and then drop down to like 6 and keep doing this really fast. I don't want this autometer tach so I disconnected it and the stock tach still does the same. I think the autometer tach was more accurate than the stock tach because when the car idle the stock tach will say 0rpm's and the autometer will say around 900. The engine doesn't feel like it's about to stall or anything like that. Any ideas?

check the ignition wire that the blue tach wire runs to.. the problem lies with the connection of that .. i am 99% sure of this.

I'm not sure exactly what to check for. I don't know much about cars so I don't really wan't to play with it. I know the blue wire that you're talking about though.

yea, trace the blue wire down to the wire that it is connected near the distributor. That wire may have a bad connection, i had the same problem. remove the wire, clean it so that the connection is good and see how it goes, this really should do the trick

Aright cool man. Thanks.

By the way, anything special I should clean it with?

actually the best thing i can think of would be to clip that blue wire and re strip the wire so that u have a fresh connection.

Are you talking about where that connector is? Clip both ends and strip and reconnect?

Strip the blue wire to expose fresh and clean wiring. Connect it together and twist it. Start your car to make sure its working properly. If it does, then clip the blue wires and wrap with electrical tape. And reinstall everything back less the Autometer Tach.
