Starter Guard heat shield?
my starter is doing wierd things.. I'll turn the key to the start/crank position and the starter will go.. it'll crank then pause for a couple seconds (I'm still holding the key) then w/o cranking anymore the car starts up and everything is normal (normal idle, car drives fine, etc..) this usually only happens maybe once every 20 starts and also usually when the car has been sitting overnight.. it pretty much never does it the 2nd time the car is started in a given day...
anyway I was at my friends house and I mentioned this and that I want to replace my starter and his dad butted in saying that I should get a starter guard/heat shield..some sort of heat shield thing... his dad drives an early 90's Camry and it has like 180K (I think) and he said its on the "original starter" (they bought the car new.. so he should know)...
does this actually work? or is his toyota starter just reliable as hell? if it works/would be beneficial to my new starter.. any1 know where I can get it cheap? thanks in advance...

damn, that's crazy. my dad's starter on his 88 camry died at 70,000 miles. he is right about the starter. heat shortens the life of a starter.
