have you never put gas in a car before. It happens on all cars, the lower the amount of gas you have left the more of a hiss you get

its the vapors in the tank they expand due to heat and create presure which is relased when you open the tank. Its like a healium (sp?) ballon if u take it in the cold it gets smaller heat and it gets bigger, same thing with the gas vapors in ur car.

Re: pressure in gas tank?? released when opened
yeah as far as i knew, it was the vapors...it does expand as j said, with heat, but also driving in a crazy way...the less gas you have in your tank and the more you weave through traffic, the more your gas sloshes around in there, causing pressure to build up...thats the purpose of fuel cells bro...fuel cells as far as i know, are honeycombed inside, kind of like little pores for the gas to be seperated in so its not sloshing around up and down the track...i would assume (stupid theory) that the more pressure built up, the higher risk of a combustion you could have in your gas tank...at least thats what i would say would kind of make sense imo
