grrr...all I wanna do is install my rear sway bar!!
Ok, I don't know if this post belongs here, but I need to vent.
To make a long story short, I am trying to install a neuspeed rear sway bar. At first, I bought ramps to do the installation, because it was recommended for me to do so. But they didn't work.
Recently, I waited for the 3-ton jack w/free stands deal at Sears. I picked it up this past week, because the store was out-of-stock when I initially went. So, I was looking forward to doing the install this weekend, finally!
I get up this morning, all ready to do the install, jack my car up, go to put the stands under the jacking points, but they won't fit underneath the car!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! I am so disappointed right now.
I dunno, I'm starting to wonder if I am doing something wrong! What size jack stands does everyone else here use?
The jack I have says it has a maximum lifting height of 21 in. I guess I could buy other jack stands, if they make them with a smaller minimum lift height...
But, I was wondering, if it is possible to return the jack and stands at sears? Anyone know if I can do this?
Well, if you read this post til the end, thanks for listening.

Re: grrr...all I wanna do is install my rear sway bar!! (Dirty GS-R)
So, why don't the jackstands fit?
I believe they have a minimum lift height of about 13". I wonder if Sears would let me exchange them for smaller ones???

dude, with that deal, you need to jack up your car one side at a time. I know ...it sucks, or make a 2-3 inch wood block ,about 1 foot wide, 3 feet long, and put the jack on that, then under the car, it will give you enough lifting hight. you need an suv jack, they rule, and will get you very high.

I'm gonna have to ask my friend w/ the Type R how he does it because I know he has that same 3 ton SUV jack and free 3 ton jack stand pair/combo... I don't recall if he had to use wood blocks when lifting the rear w/ the jack via the rear tow hook...
anyway sears return policy is pretty cool .. if you have a receipt they will probably return it if not they will probably exchange it for store credit or something...
so the problem your having right now is that at the jacks maximum height jacking the rear up by the tow hook, the jack stands don't have enough clearance to slide underneath to the stock jacking points?

I installed my Neuspeed with the car on ramps. Why didn't it work?

Back to the jackstands...yes, I have the jack fully extended, and I'm not able to get the jackstands underneath the lifting points.
The problem isn't the jack, it works great!
jacking the rear up by the tow hook

i had the same problem, i think i have the same jack as you too. what i did was jack it up from the rear jack point right in the middle and left the jack there. then i put the jack stands on the lowest setting and stuck them under the frame of my car just incase the jack fell or slipped or something. the jack gets in the way but you can work around it. goodluck

simple..i use a floor jack and my car jack. if floor jack doesnt get the car high enough, i put the car jack somewhere else that would help in raising the car
