Default exhaust gaskets question?

new exhaust for christmas! not really.. it is used but still good to go aside from some scratches

since my old exhaust got all denty and bumpy, i'd definitely like to get my new one put on today but i'll need exhaust gaskets...

-what is the point of an exhaust gasket(s)
-is it really needed?
-is it recommended to reuse old ones? not sure if i even have any(i wasn't the installer but i'll be installing this new one)

i want to try this on asap

thanks

Exhaust gaskets are designed to prevent exhaust leaks.

Which gasket are you referring to? The donut gasket at the end of the exhaust manifold?

I've had my OEM exhaust apart several times over the years and I've never replaced a gasket. I probably need to, though, because I think I have a slight leak somewhere.

If you're just replacing the exhaust (cat-back) system, then all you will need is the flange gasket that goes between the catalytic and the exhuast pipe. If your exhaust is a bolt on system with several pipes, then they should have flange gaskets between the pipes also.
