Antenna wont go up (help)
So I turn my car on the other day and the antenna only goes up about 4 inches. Everytime I turn the car on now, it goes up only those 4 inches and then makes this knocking noise as it tries to go up the whole way, but it doesnt go any further. I tried applying soap and water to the antenna to degrease it, but that didnt do anything.
Suggestions?

Pull up on he antenna to help it raise. (get a friend to turn on the radio or be really quick.) You can check it for damage and lubricate it then.

What year is you car? If you have an early 90s car than your antenna is dying.
The plastic teeth that coils up is worn. Time to replace it. I replace mine not to long ago. works fine.

Re: (Dogginator)
Your antenna has a plastic like teeth on the end which become brittle from going up and down so often, or age. search on google for antenna replacements, and replace the whole thing

its a 2000 teg.
doggin, i tried it again (pulling up as it was trying to go up) and that did the trick. the problem is that its still having problems going up and down. actually, as of this morning, its stuck in the up position.
i havent had a chance to get the soap out and give it a go.

If you buy a new mast from the dealer, it costs about $50. The mast should have the beaded chain. If you want it to go back down, simply push down as it is trying to retract.

The antenna seems to be going up and down somewhat regularly, but its definitely struggling. Gonna wait it out about a week and then decide whether I need a new motor or those plastic teeth you guys mentioned.

Re: (Coogster)
get a sharkII. i got one because my mast was doing the same thing. this last winter just did it in. they're $40 shipped from locustoms.com or something like that. looks a lot better then oem too. if you get one like this, you'll realize what an eyesore that giant mast is. gl with whatever you do
edit: looked up the site. you can find them at http://locustom.com/shark2_kit.htm
