what oil do you run?
My turbo is still leaking oil at the turbine.. so far i've made sure the drain was good.. checked for debris in the CHRA that could cause drain clogging.. made a 1/16th restrictor (.060")..
it doesn't burn oil at all when the car is cold.. no smoke at all when it's revved until full temp (200* F).. right now i'm running 5w30 and I think it's thinning out too much and seeping past the seals.. what do you guys think? FL weather probably doesn't help.
I found a 5w50 but it's $8 a quart.. that's a bit much IMO.. 20w50 is $2.98 but that's pretty hard on the bearings from a cold start, wouldn't you say?

not much.. I don't notice it unless the car has been running and i rev it up at a stop.

the turbo looked super clean when I got it, and didn't smoke at first, but only a few days of running it has proven the seals are bad. I guess it's time for a rebuild

I don't think changing your oil weight is going to solve your problem.
Time to take it over to a diesel shop and have them through in a new seal/washer set.
Make sure the place can do dynamic balancing as well.

Isnt that whats best for turbo? I was just thinking cause the turbo gets so hot that it was needed?
Is it really bad the the pump?

Wow, really? I use the same oil, and never had any problems with it. Makes me kinda self-conscious, thoh.

saves engines, I would have no concerns running a 20-50.

did you smell it? might of mistaken it with a large mixture of gas.

same, i didn't find it necessary and wasn't thoroughly convinced to run synthetic. Both based on some experience with previous motor builds and reasearch.

Re: (mike93eh2)
I run Castrol non-synthetic 20w-50...I have not had any issues with bearings nor oil pumps and I have used this on several boosted motors

lol, ok
I run 20w-50
Heat thins oil and on turbo motors the turbo thins it a tad bit more... Feel some warm 20w-50 and tell me if you still think it's too "thick"
