Default What micron in-line fuel filter to run? (searched)

I searched and came up with a few posts but most of them were not really clear or relevant to what i am wondering. I want to run an inline-fuel filter where my stock filter is under the hood, and im not sure what micron to run, im gonna run walbro in-tank fuel pump, and no inline fuel pumps or anything crazy.

There are summit racing ones with 30 micron for $24, and then there is 10 micron ones for $100, and also 100 micron for $100, there has to be a difference, if i understand correct, the smaller the number the smaller the particles that are caught in the filter?

Would a cheapo $24 summit racing 30 micron 40 micron fuel filter be ok for 400whp+ or should i run something else? Thanks!

most people on this site run the aeromotive set-up which is one 40 micron and a 100 micron.
fuel directly from the tank into the 100 micron filter then the pump. next the pump feeds into the 40 micron and then into the fuel rail or sometimes the FPR then rail your choice.

use an aeromotive filter, they have a large volume, dont use those dinky filters, they clog really fast and are a pain to clean.

I run a 100 micron before my pump and a 10 micron after the pump, both aeromotive.

how do you put one in before the tank? will this work with a regular walbro 255 in-tank fuel pump?

you need to use a inline walbro if you want to filter fuel before the pump.
the most common set-up is a sump tank with a filter to pump to filter to rail. get it ?

sump > 100 micron > 2 bosch pumps > 10 micron > rail

if you filter your fuel into the jug, and again into the car, and the tank is clean, there is no need for a 40 micron pre. the guy i got my fuel system from runs a mechanically injected dragster in delaware. he summed it up to me as running a marathon with your hand covering your mouth.

a 100 micron post is the way to go.
i chose the peterson pleated filter. if you have a choice, get a pleated filter.

is it really necessary to use a sump pump and the extra fuel filter? i mean the in-tank walbro has the "sock" fuel filter anyways, like oem, right? Im building the car for around 400whp, not sure if i need to run a sump system?

the walbro also has a 40 micron or something like that, sock attached to the bottom of it.

If you're running the sump pump with filter sock, then you only need another filter after the pump.

My theory on pump is anything 10 micron or above is fine...that's what i ran all the time....

The filter before the pump is to prevent any large debris to get into the pump internal assembly. This can be done with a filter sock as well.

The filter after the pump is to prevent in the event of your pump internal exploding then you won't have to deal with this going into the motor.

The smaller the filter, the more often you have to take it apart and clean or replace the media, the larger the filter you can go quite a while. I usually changed them every year

Wait so anything above 10 micron is fine? sp 40 30 100 is all good? I thought the smaller the micron the filter filters, the better, not the large # the better? im confused.

micron are the size of the particles that the filter will allow to pass through it usually smaller numbers mean more things get filtered out an larger number means larger size particles get filtered out if you run just a 40 micro your fine people run for added protection
