Re: Post your 400whp+ Vitara Builds!
i bought the car with the motor in it. i believe it had way to much piston wall clearance and thats what caused them to crack cause the afr's were good and no detonation.

Pistons to wall clearance... Expanding these are cast pistons they dont expand its not easy to build an engine i have done mine 3 times now... These pistons should have a total of .002-.0025 clearance 1 tho on each side.. They dont need alot of clearance... I would follow stock spec for this make sure the cylinder walls are clean professionally honed with the right grit for your pistons.. I would recomend a over sized so the bore is straight.. If the motor is low milage and you cant feel a over lap on the top it might be ok.. Measure the pistons/walls.. If you had a set of forged alloy pistons high silicon then they do expand but still not as much... They sell 2 diff alloy pistons one set doesnt expand alot and one set expands... Never seen a piston crack like that.

Some sweet builds in here! I'm doing a slight opposite... I'm trying to source a d16z6 or a6 crankshaft to have machined down or machine my mains to run in my Tracker! Have to get my crank machined from some wear so I decided why not upgrade? Stock g16 rod journals are hollow so it flexes over 200hp or so, and I'm at higher RPM a bit when offroading.

Lets keep it going!!
There are tons of vitara projects, it just seems that they are all in D-series.org "lots of dholics there"! and TurboD16.com since this sites specialized on the SOHC engines.
Honda-Tech tends to leans more tours the B and now K engines.
I have a 92 hatch as of now it has a d16z6 engine bore to 76mm fjt vitaras (at that time they didn't have the 75.5) 550cc tunner toys inj and walbro pump, eldelbrock intake, moroso oil pan, cast iron manifold with custom downpipe and tube by AUTOWORKS.
getting my parts ready for a over new build using oem honda parts, 75mm bored, performace porting head, and thinking on ordering a delta cam. also thinking about sending my intake to PP to do some matching,.
Im hoping with the proper tunning i can be part of the 400hp club.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...cto%2C+project
i had lots of up and downs, more downs than ups lol, but im still here and I WILL FINISH THIS PROJECT.
I will update my project as soon as i get all my new parts and i get started on my car.
STAY TUNE TO "MI PROJECTO STRIKES BACK"

I sorced a crankshaft and everything is at the machine shop for my g16 Tracker build. YCP pistons with teflon coating, trying to get ahold of FJDistributors to get their custom length rods. D16z6 crankshaft is at the shop getting ~3mm taken off the mains, pulley snout shortened ~.5", flywheel holes plugged and redrilled ~.5" smaller spacing, keyway recut for pulleys, balanced, then nitride treated.
PnP head, valve job, T25, CXracing front mount, blah blah blah...

Re: Post your 400whp+ Vitara Builds!
Wow. That's digging one up from the past but I have never seen this thread. I currently own 3 boosted d16y8s. One vitara just under 400whp and one just above 300whp. Last car is over 400 but has supertechs so I'm not in the vitara 400 group. Close but no cigar but I will continue to live and die by the d series. Believe it or not they're getting a little harder to find in decent shape. I was searching for a head about a month ago. When my cam ate the head journals and wasn't nearly as easy as it was when I built my first 2.

That's the main issue, everyone is scrapping them. Must have a lot of people who don't know how relaxing it is to have simple, decently powered cars. When something breaks u laugh it off and it's back together the next day
