It won't make it that much less effecient. But this has been the subject of many threads. You'll find a lot more through searching than making another thread

just dont get alot of paint inside the fins...what i did is take a paint roller, and lightly roll across the front of it, works great and doesnt block fins.

I don't know if this would be an issue, but wouldn't painting it black attract more heat?

black coroed objects absorb more heat (light energy and heat up more than White colored objects, BUT, did you know Black colored objects also LOSE heat more rapidly than white colored objects? EG: bottom of the space shuttle.

You will loose more to sunlight than you will gain from the color, if you drive your car around at night, yes its fine, but if sunlight can hit the intercooler, rather not.

ive got a buddy with a turbo gsr and he painted his with black spray paint and he claims no cooling loss, but by rights it has to affect cooling. my personal opion is not to do it.

I painted mine black with regular spray paint and it turned out really nice, needs to be tounched up every couple of months, but its much cheaper than anodizing. If there was any effect on cooling my *** sure didnt feel it. Also, how many intercoolers actually see direct sunlight? They are usually tucked away pretty good behind the bumper, so I wouldnt worry about sunlight heating it up.

i get a little frustrated when i see these post. because painting your IC will not effect cooling. Why would companies spend extra money painting their radiators black if they could just leave it plain. I have painted my IC and had NO problems what so ever. How many people have you seen on here that have said" i blew up my motor because i painted my IC black" NONE! If you want to paint you IC black feel free to do so.....in CAL cars get jacked left and right....even having mine painted, it still got jacked!

Mine is also painted black. Datalogging shows temps below 100F...at night I usually see temps in the 70's.

Yes it's true.. the brilliant minds of Honda-Tech know alot more than those foolish Nissan engineers.......... who painted the stock Skyline FMIC black

Painting does nothing.

It would still depend how much sunlight it gets, especially when your on a strip when you don't get to drive around to cool it down, the pics posted shows a ic that will not see sunlight, however on other modded cars where most of the ic sticks out, it might still be a different issue, not on daily driving, but on the strip it might...

Anyone can give their interpretation of the THEORY......but noone will actually whip out any proof showing that painting is detrimental to efficiency.

Paint it. It won't hurt a thing.

hey arent you talking about my thermodynamics textbook son...
hahaha.
cramers car was fresh but someone still got to it even though the ic was painted black...
i REALLY don't think that much of a temperature difference (from painting the ic black) would even affect your car. if that was the case, people would blow their cars left and right for driving under adverse conditions.

Speaking strictly from a empirical standpoint - painting it will technically inhibit heat transfer. You are putting an insulating layer of paint over the metal, thus lowering its cooling abilities.

My stock radiator is not painted black, it is unpainted aluminum. To answer the question about the painted stock intercooler - they probably painted it to look cool. From a performance standpoint YES it will inhibit the cooling abilities, how much? Maybe not a lot - but if you are purely going for performance than don't paint it. If you are going for a combination of looks / performance, than painting it is fine....
