Default OBX Adel Wiggins, Hydraflow clamp assembly clones.

I was browsing Ebay for used Wiggins clamps, because I can't afford new, and saw these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...26010

For some reason I always assumed Adel Wiggins Group and Hydraflow had some patents on these clamps, (simply for the reason that as simple as these clamp assemblies look, the prices on these are ridiculous) but I believe that was a wrong assumption, because quick Google search and their websites didn't reveal any patents listed for their tube connectors. They are however qualified to AS1650 and MIL-C-22263 spec. which I think qualifies them to be used in the military/navy/etc. by probably subjecting a product to pressure/temprature/constant usage tests and what not as well as tougher manufacturing standars. I highly doubt OBX would go through the trouble of getting these to conform to those, simply because that's not their market and maybe because they might not be as good quality wise (I don't know maybe looser tolerences, cheaper alloys, whatever). From the looks of things (especially the price ) I think they'll be just fine on my boosted econobox.

I bought a few assemblies and will compare them to my Wiggins and Hydraflow clamps. But I wanted to ask H-T if anybody else used them and found anything wrong with them, because sometimes as simple as the part maybe, OBX seems to find a way to fvck it up. A lot of their parts work just fine though.

I can't wait until they make knock-off 88-91 EF chassis's. Finding one around these parts that isn't a rust bucket (or been JDM ricer a**-raped) is impossible.

Orings are easy to find, especially if Mcmaster.com ships to your door. Honestly I wouldn't want ANY rubber sold by any knock-off company - the quality is usually the worst.

Anyone have a diagram showing exactly how these work? Is it basicly like a v-band, except all pressure is axial (directly outwards from the center of the pipe) via the o-rings on that grey sleeve?

You could buy some hargett QDC clamps, they are very reasonably priced, and quicker/easier to use than the wiggins.

I received the clamps today. They came with o-rings even though the add says they come without them, and everything is of very nice quality (from machining/fit to anodizing). Apparently, besides 6061 Al the ferrules can be had in 304 ss from OBX. These OBX clamps look exactly the same as Wiggins aside from the few holes and laser etched part # on the Wiggins. The sleeve, latch fingers, hinge look exactly the same.

Still a little more expensive than silicone couplers/t-bolt clamps, but cheaper than Hargett QDC clamps, Accufab clamps and just a fraction of the cost of the real Wiggins/Hydraflow ones. Maybe I'll upload a couple of comparison pictures when I find my camera cord.

Good stuff about your feed back. I just bought originals two months back. Should have waited.

Mad that the colours are the same....In the pics the purple looks shinier.
