Need help! TOO much smoke coming out of catch can, why!?
Hey guys I have a GSR turbo on precision sc61 and I'm getting too much white smoke coming out of catch can and valve cover breather. Why? Is oil heating up too much? Car started to misfire.

That's a possibility with the misfire but in reality all 3 high hp d16 motors I've built you can clearly see the smoke constantly flowing out of the top filter on the catch can. It's heat that would be in your motor so at least it's coming out. Lol. Id like to see a video to get an idea of how much "smoke" or heat is coming out.

I'll try and get a video but it's alot. It literally makes a huge cloud of smoke... I give it has and it comes out excessively from the catch can and the valve cover breather. I forgot to mention oil also spilled out somehow. When I popped open the hood there was oil all over the place. I already inspected and there's no leaks. You can tell the oil is coming from the catch can and valve cover breather...

what does it smell like?
typically a large amount of vapor/smoke when the motor is warmed up means a serious ring/blowby issue.
sounds like it's time for a compression/leakdown test

Why don't you get this misfire addressed first then see if it's a blow by issue. Mileage total? Mileage boosted?

misfire won't affect smoke in the crankcase, now if the rings are shot and it's allowing blowby and oil to enter the combustion chamber and contaminate the intake charge then it could actually be CAUSING the misfire.
you need to do a compression test at the very least ASAP. If you keep driving it and beating on it then you could from something as simple as replacing the rings all the way to having to overbore or replace the block depending on how the motor eventually fails

Just generally speaking saying take care of the misfire. Clearly needs to do a compression and leak down test if it's excessive and as bad as he says. Is this a older motor with some miles on it. Be nice if you could post compression numbers

20 bucks says the misfire is because of whatever is causing the smoke.
Seen this same scenario more than once over the years... (why my name is blue lol)

Ok thanks for the input guys. Just to let u all know I have the turbo oil feed line going right under my exhaust manifold. Will this cause the oil to overheat and create to much pressure in the engine?

Ok so tonight I will do a compression test on cylinders. Any other help and input would be great! Thanks!

It's oil vapor, not smoke.
You need to have a leak down test done and it will help locate the problem.

ok did compression test and compressions were
1. 0000000
2. 130
3. 140
4. 200
did a leak down test and cylinder 1 has bent valve in intake side. so im screwed and just going to rebuild the motor with forged pistons. i was running a stock engine. thanks for the help guys!

I just installed my catch can today and it's smoking a bit too out the breather, I think some is normal, my engine is pretty much brand new.

Re: Need help! TOO much smoke coming out of catch can, why!?
I floated valves and two came in contact with each other but my compression was still at 100. Sorry to hear it but these motors are cheap to build. I just finished my 3rd d16 build this year. Although outdated. I build eagle/vitara combos and they're producing very nice torque numbers. If you're looking for somewhat of a budget build then they're great but high hp builds you want a c/r of at least 11:1. What's your power goal because a vitara d16 with 302whp 256wtq is the perfect street power. Again in my opinion atleast. Sorry for the loss. Gl with the build. This is where the fun to trouble ratio equals out lol
Ps: what power were you making on the stock motor? How many miles? Miles since boosted and most importantly what was your engine management/who tuned it?

Re: Need help! TOO much smoke coming out of catch can, why!?
Looking to get at least 400+ whp. I'm in the market now for a block with forged internals. I would do everything myself but I don't have the time to put the bottom end together... I have another head on the side I'm going to get done. I just need a built and ready block

Do you have a block already or are you looking for everything? If so that's gonna be a little harder and don't buy second hand that has no documentation of the build as that's 90% of the time a recipe for a disaster

PERFECT time to send your block off for CSS treatment, Im sure if you send them pistons/rods/crank/bearings/oil pump/rear main they have the capabilities to CSS the block aswell as assemble it and send it back to you

Ok so how much do u think it will cost just to build the block? I've done a N/A setup but I feel this would be more expensive.
