Ls Turbo "trouble"
I have a b18b1 with a basic t3\t4 3inch all the way back bout 9psi tuned with 440 rcs. While cruising down the highway I watch my AirFuel Gauge there's a lean spot it dips ino the 17s goes back ino the 14s as it goes lean my exhaust pops. And the motor kinda takes a pause. Anyone have this problem? I've done a search but nothing came up maybe someone can share a similar experience. thanks

Re: Ls Turbo "trouble" (Snail EK)
I had a similar experience with my Starion and it was detonation that made the popping. In the end I found out I had a cracked manifold.

Re: Ls Turbo "trouble" (Bh8teen)
Take a look at your 2D fuel maps.....is very jagged? This is an indication of not only a poor tune, but also lean spot in the transitions. If you can...try to add a lot of fuel in that area just to see if that is the problem, I mean you are using a DIY program .

Re: Ls Turbo "trouble" (Snail EK)
im having something similar i think. when cruising around 15 or so vacuum, my car is in the leanest part of the map, and it bucks a tiny bit. im not in the 17's however, this is happening around 14-15:1 afr.. oh and im on uberdata
id say that since u do have a rom program, try tossing some extra fuel in there a nd see how it works

ive had the same problem around 3k, the vac was around 10-15, it was a continuous hessitation maybe every 10secs or so cruising on the highway, the a/f would be around high 14's than it would jump from 17-18. we added more fuel but the problem was still there

Re: Ls Turbo "trouble" (ctap)
I am in the same boat. I have replaced everything ignition related because I thought it was a spark issue, nope not at all. I have also replaced the tps, iacv, map sensor, and added a fuel pressure reg. to the mix. Nothing solved it. It doesn't do it in boost at all, just in vacuum. It is only during partial throttle never WOT. It didn't do this before I turbo'd the beast, so I am thinking about trying stock injectors and a stock ecu to see if it is fuel and or injector problems.
Oh, I am running uberdata, RC 550's, and a walboro pump.
I am open to any other suggestions because I posted something like this awhile ago but no one could come to any conclusion. I am going to try and spend some time with my tuner to see if it is anything within uberdata.

The Solution is TO TUNE IT DUMBASS!!! YOu have no problem....it's your tune....make some modifications to your map by adding excess fuel and see if that does it. Not hard buddy!

definately going to agree with these guys, test everything you can sensors wise, and just get it tuned again, brand new factory cars have the same problem so tsb's come with a remap to cure the problem. remember it's only a car.

Re: (wesisrael)
does crome have a "closed loop disable" option like uberdata does? if so check that, i have uberdata and my car would do a slight studder at partial throttle around 3k. now with closed loop disabled and o2 heater disabled the car runs alot better.
also to the person using uberdata, try that option also.

I think it is a tuning problem.
Was your car working right after you tuned it and then the problem developed?
Or is it something that it has always done since you tuned it?
If it is doing this before boost kicks in, maybe you should try a stock rom with the proper injector multiplier and see if it does it (careful not to hit boost on a stock rom)
Sean mentioned closed loop disable, it could be that your ECU is switching from closed to open loop at that point and it causing that hesitation. Even so, if it was tuned properly I don't think you should have it, but just to elimante that variable, try disabling closed loop.
Also, if you know anybody with Hondata it may be a good idea, for diagnostic purposes, to hook up a hondata rom and play with the throttle tip in, I could be wrong, but I don't think Crome or Uberdata have that feature yet.

Re: (Snail EK)
Mine did it before it was tuned and it didn't do it on the way home from the tune. The next day when we put it on the dyno, it really started to act up and ever since it does it all the time. The original chip had crome on it, but we switched to uberdata. It was tuned with a wideband and it didn't show any type of lean out or anything for detonation. The timing is set to stock setting and adjusted through uber. When I first put the stuff on the car and it wasn't tuned, I thought it was just loading up on fuel causing it to cut the way it is because you could smell the raw fuel, but like I said, the ride home from the tune, it didn't do it at all, but the next day and thereafter....it is all the time.
I will try having it tuned more to see what happens, but I don't think it is going to solve it. I thought it was the ecu, so we tried another ecu, but same thing.
to the people that are trying to help and a to the people being negative

Re: (AIminiS10)
I've had something sort of similar to this happen (I'm using Zdyne on a b18a). At 4500 on the highway at partial throttle my A:F dips down from 14.7 to 13.2-13.5 or so. It does this no matter what I do to the fuel/timing at that RPM level & any vaccum. I can subtract 15% in that exact 20-16in/hg 4200-4800rpm and it does nothing to that area. I'm not sure if this is related to the honda ecu or what, but nothing I've ever done solves the problem. If you happen to find a solution let us know.

I don't know if this will help, but I had a similar problem with my tune. What was happening on mine is that as the turbo spooled the boost would push the ecu into the farther right columns of the map. At that RPM the ignition was pretty retarded, but as the RPMs increased, so did the advance in that column. The result was when the turbo began to spool, the car would fall on its face between 5000 and 5400 until the ignition timing picked back up. If you could datalog you could watch your ignition timing and see if it is doing that.
