Thermal's 3" has a 2.5" baffeled muffler. I have a thermal on my 1.6EL and i have the vibrant 18" resonator and the car is pretty quiet. Untill the wastegate opens.

Check out the new WS2 80mm turbo mufflers.

Right now I have a 3" turbo back to an ebay resonator, summit racing 12" glasspack, to a vibrant 3". Its almost perfect.

I also have a manual 3" cutout on the dp that I run at the track.

vibrant stealth hands down. Just add the race resonator and your good to go. Not even $150.

i like my magna flow muffler with stock gsr tip welded on my buddy club spec 3 catback, although its 2.5 you can get the 3'' magna flow muffler and do the same, i painted it flat black it sounds real nice in wot but verry quiet under normal driving, im running no cat but the bc resonator but it looks so stock!

There's a big difference between "sounds great" and "sounds quiet". "Almost quiet" reminds me of a quote - "You know what almost gets you? A hooker with a *****. Its almost a female hooker"

I've had [only] 2 straight-through mufflers on a full 3" before, it wasn't that bad vs open DP, but still very loud. I was issued a citation FIRST DAY I drove it. Now I'm rocking a custom e-cutout with a stock muffler - mine opens in 1/3 a second.

hate to bump a old thread, but i am in need of a quiet 3" muffler
i know how loud a honda b16/b18 is straight 2.5", but im not looking to quiet a honda
so a few of my honda buddies are trying to help me making it quiet.
its a 1.6l miata, i had custom 2.5" exhaust, with resonator, aside from shooting flames every shift, you could literally hear me 3miles away (we tested it)
i finally got a tictet for it and need something quiet

so im redoing the exhaust with 3" for the gt2560r turbo and need something quiet yet not as restrictive as a 2" exhaust

any ideas? i was browsing this thread, but everyone contradicts each other, one saying this is quiet and another saying the same thing is extremely loud

If you want it to be quieter, use a resonator and chambered muffler.

I'm also using a Vibrant 18" resonator and the Vibrant flat back straight through muffler on a 3" turbo back exhaust on the Volvo and it's loud.

Chambered muffler is the key here.

I have a vibrant muffler I had a turn down welded on, 3" piping and a vibrant race muffler in place of a resonator and my car is quiet. You cant tell the car is boosted unless I am really on it

3" piping, magnaflow high flow cat, magnaflow 4" round 27" long "muffler" as a resonator, and Vibrant 3" flat black out the back. SUPER QUIET, even when i'm on it it's still quieter than my dad's mustang.

i know people keep stating the vibrant is loud but honestly mine is quiet as hell....im running 3" header exit,3" flex pipe, 3" piping, 3" e-cut out, 3"x12" i believe vibrant resonator and 3" vibrant flat black muffler..

ive never had an exhaust this quiet', it sounds near stock unless i really get on it 5k+rpm's and then its mostly motor noise...b18c/200whp na set-up for now...i hear the intake over the exhaust by far', i would definately reccomend a set-up similar to mine....

i personally love the vibrant and in my experience it has a great low tone and is the quiestest exhaust ive heard/owned thus far......the resonator i am usuing is also made by vibrant.,.

few pics after install..

I have all 3" piping with only a vibrant muffler and i hated it a first because it was to loud. Ive been getting some black buildup on my bumper so i extended the tip of the muffler about an inch past the bumper (previously it was flush with the exhaust cutout of bumper). Just doing that made huge reduction in sound. Both from inside and outside the car.

For those of you that are complaining about the vibrant being too loud how far is the tip past the bumper? I think in most cases the outlet needs to be extended on it if your not cutting the bumper.

I would have never though adding an inch to the outlet would make a difference in sound.

The exhaust outlet location on my car was similar to this before i extended it. I would bet extending the outlet on this a couple inches would quiet things down a good amount.

Mine is fairly flush. I've heard that a slight downturn or extension can help, I just have very little time to do anything to the car these days. I'll add it to the list though.

running 3" piping 16" straight thru resonator, and magnaflow straight thru muffler on a crx which is short system to start with, very quiet! silent at idle...resonator is key to sound

Does adding a resonator to your exhaust affect flow to the point I would need a retune? And has anyone used a Dynomax ultra flo muffler or compared it to the Vibrant?

Magnaflow with a turndown is what I use. Any straight through design without extra components (sausage link mufflers) is going to be loud period.
