Kinda out there! But who has blown an intercooler pipe at the track?
As the title says. Man I can tell you the first few times you do it it is the scariest thing because it pops and all of sudden you have this loss of power and IMMEDIATELY think OH **** I just blew my engine! Until you look at the boost gauge and notice 0psi and no vacuum. It feels like you hit a brick wall at first. SCARY! I will not be having these problems next year, again plan on adding T Bolt clamps again and also tac weld some spots on the pipes with a strap from ic pipe to ic and turbo to ic pipe and ic pipe to tb! Experiences anyone?

Never been that lucky yet (Vonte' knocks on wood) My piping has small tack welds so the clamps grab better. I imagine it would suck though.

I always use T-Bolt Clamps. The standard worm clamps rip into the silicone hose.

I hear that!
I did a 16.8 @ 98mph when my charge piping blew off at the end of the track on my old T-25 ZC setup.
It's happened to me many times on the street, where it blows off...and I Immediatly think "Oh ****."
The worst part is driving home to fix it when you don't have a screw driver on hand...

Yah, during the last few times i went to the track, it started to happen to me alot, so i did this..
I was pissed too, because that one day, on my last run, i was on a record run, only for it to blow off in 4th. went 11.2@80mph, hehe...

My first time as well at the track with my car I went from a d16z6 with 230k to a 1.8 vtec w/ t3/t4 turbo after a terrible lauch w/ street tires (kuhmo) the car was running really good picking up a lot of speed I shift into 4th(1000ft mark) and immediate power loss I knew my enine was gone for sure needless to say I had to change my pants my times on that run was 2.5 60ft. 15.1 at 85mph (7 psi)

Re: (boosted_dc2)
We sell those clamps at West Marine, which is a boating store that I work at during the summers.
http://www.westmarine.com/weba...=1103
So if you have a WestMarine near you, and your local auto-parts store doesn't stock these, it might be a helpful hint.
Also, because marine conditions are so harsh, better quality materials are used, you will find a lot of stainless steel. And the copper wiring is superior too (tinned-copper) which is a useful tip for making earthing kits

Samething happen to me at a local Corvette Road/Auto-x course at 14psi and the pipe that goes to the turbo pop put and made a loud boom! scared me to death Next think I notice... I can make a pound or boost and a Porsche 911 is flying up to my *** cuz my car doesnt go anywhere with 8.8:1cr and stock bore

not at the track, but...I have a turboed d16y7 with the stock downdraft intake manifold....one time my throttle body pipe blew off at 8psi when I was getting on a highway onramp and hit my hood. It left a big dimple in the hood that's probably 2-2.5" in diameter and flattened out my charge piping where it hit...so not only did I crap my pants, but I get reminded of it every time I look at my hood.
Needless to say, I now have a screw-driver and misc. tools on hand to fix any piping-related problems I could encounter.

Re: Kinda out there! But who has blown an intercooler pipe at the track? (rjardy)
with my first turbo car 3 years ago i had my i/c pipe come off at the track on my launch and didn't figure out it was my pipe for a week (Turbo noob back then ) This year with my new turbo car i had some home depot rubber elbows coming off my turbo. Good thing i brought about 4 extra to the track because after 1 run they would all blow up. Now i have all silcone hump hoses from atpturbo.com, just gotta go to napa and get some t-bolt clamps.

Re: Kinda out there! But who has blown an intercooler pipe at the track? (flip1199)
nothing like turning that big shiny intercooler you bought into a nice cold air intake, no?
blowing an intercooler pipe sounds like a huge blow off valve or something, at least to me.. lots of people think it sounds like blowing a motor.... mmm nope!
hahaha. done it many times, i've found that in addition to T-bolt clamps, rolled ends or tacks on the edges of the pipes, 3M spray adhesive, or extra super duty hold HAIRSPRAY on the connectors and pipe greatly help adhesion of the pipe to the silicone.

is there any negative side effects to bolting the pipes together like a few have done? is seems that when the engine torques it would put a lot of stress on the pipes, since the intercooler cant move, and the pipes have to
