How to tune nitrous
My friend has a 75 wet shot on an h22. He was wondering would it be worth it to dyno tune the fuel with his vafc? If so what would the target afr be? He has stock injectors. thanks

he's not boosting though.
tune the vafc all motor, once thats pinned down nicely, then do some nitrou pulls and do not touch the vafc further. play with only jets from there

Exactly... If he were running a dry system then it would be a bit different as you could use your VAFC for a tiny bit of fuel or subtracting... Tell your friend to read his plugs, they'll tell you a lot...

Ok this is what happened. He wanted to do a baseline run n/a and spray. He did a n/a run and made 170/133. Then before the first nitrous run the guy dynoing the car took a torch to his bottle for quite awhile saying that it will help. He starts the run and as soon as the n2o comes on it detonates worse than anything I have ever heard, sounded like someone taking a jack hammer to the inside of his motor. The guy held it there for 3 or 4 seconds before letting off too. That run made 240 tq and like 210 hp when he let off at 5-6k i belive. Then they do another run on nitrous after the bottle cools down and tons of smoke comes out the exhaust and breather. That run made 190hp dont remember the tq. He video taped all of it, il try and get him to upload it.

Re: (nevin)
Heating a bottle with a torch is a big no-no. Bottle pressure probably was ungodly high resulting in overlean condition. Did he even have a n2o pressure gauge? Not even I would do somthing that stupid. Bottle pressure is directly related to temp. 80 degrees is optimum. Anything higher than that isnt real safe.

higher is more than safe if you tune for it. i tuned mine for like 1050psi or so . 80degrees was not cutting it for me at all . thats what fuel jets are for to compensate for bottle pressure/the amount of nitrous flow to even the micture out to be safe

i ran stock injectors on nitrous for 2 years atleast on my R, no probs. and the Vafc worked fine for me for the most part. if the tuner knows what they are doing you will be fine. I was cranking out some serious Hp. i was doing about 250whp on 70shot single fogger, then went up to 100shot direct port and was pushing close to 300whp
everyones always trying to make a buck on here.

I didn't think it was a very good idea myself but I never had a nitrous setup before so I didn't say anything. It was a full bottle to start with and my friend said that torching it made the pressure go up into the "red" zone allthough I didn't see it myself. His ringlands are obivously gone. The pressure was so high it blew the line off his purge when the guy purged it.

Haha jon imed me yesterday and said speedworks blew the motor up or something like that. I don't think they should've even done a 2nd pull with detonation that bad on the 1st one. Did he even drive the car home?

Yeah he drove it home. It was knocking really bad also. The guy was like i don't think its coming from the bottom end, theres just somthing in the motor I was following him home and I told him if the knocking get louder and it feels like its losing power to just pull over but he made it home ok.

Re: (Kataku2K3)
Read my previous post, it was the ringlands.
Anyways we talked to the guy and all he said was the shot is going to be the same from the proper operating pressure which is like 700-1050 or somthing and if it is any higher it will turn into gas and the car will just run fat rich. That sounds like bs to me cause if the bottle is full of liquid nitrous how is it not going to expand into gas.

Re: (N2OTEGRA)
This too isn't that big of a deal but he said it's a wet system so as long as the injectors were enough NA they really don't matter now... Most all of his tuning will come from igntion timing and the fuel/nitrous jets...
