Help me pick a turbo for the mighty D16
Well my goal is 350whp, ive been contemplating between the GT2871R .63ar T3 exhaust or a GT3251e for a while. Anyone else have any idea what turbo would suit my needs... this is going to be a daily driver. I would go for the GT28RS but i don't think it's capable of 350whp on pump gas.

Lol, i was looking into the GT3076R you don't think it's to big, especially for only 350whp. I want a nice powerband, to go with the horsepower..

you may have to run race fuel to push the others and run more boost and more timing to reach the 350 mark. maybe. the larger more efficient turbo can maybe get you there without having to run race fuel.

D16 knock limit on pump is typicallyaround 350. You'll find more gains in knock limit from a decent turbo or intake manifold, cam, etc, than going with a "larger" "more efficient" compressor. It's already GT-series, and does 350 plot within it's efficiency map? Yes or no?
FYI, I'm rooting for T67/T4 with P-trim turbine wheel and .58 AR housing with split scroll manifold. expletive all this ****** ARRRRRRR series baller bearing turbo nonsense.

Re: (Zakar)
It's only 350, stock block D-series with pistons/rods with get the job done.
PS, your sig is from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter Thompson, not some asshat stealing one of his character's names on TM. It's a really good read, right up there with Choke, you should try it out.

Re: (turboeg77)
Hmm, maybe i should lower my goal to what i wanted at first ~300whp. I just saw a dyno of a D16 w/ a GT2871R managing to make 300whp from nearly 5.5k rpm to 8k rpm.

i guess i didnt realize it was from the movie.. i've seen it before but i was intoxicated every time. i just thought it was catchy when i saw it on TM
either way, he is spending 1300 bucks on a turbo... he could afford an LS swap

Re: (Zakar)
Yea, i can defiantly afford a LS swap, but then i'd have to sell my mani/dp/dumptube, intercooler piping, and i want a reliable ~300whp car. I feel that a forged internal D16 at 300whp is more reliable than a stock LS swap with 300whp? I may be wrong though.
On a side note find me a good running LS swap for 1k or a GSR swap for 2k and i'm all over it.

Either GT2871r T3 .82 a/r or GT30r .63 a/r. You're gonna need a rather large turbo to make 350whp on pump gas. Personally I'd aim for 300whp on pump and 400whp on race gas on the one of those turbos.

Re: Help me pick a turbo for the mighty D16 (Unsivil_audio)
Yea after, a little thought i think i'm just going to stick with 300whp. 300whp on a daily driver is pretty stupid anyway (quick). Right now i'm leaning towards the GT2871R .82 or .63 not sure with which one i want to go with.
I'm also thinking about the GT3251e due to the price, and the things i've heard about the turbo.

What's wrong with the T3/04e 57 trim .63 ar?
That's a way cheaper turbo that would get you to your goals. Since it's about half the price of a ball bearing unit you could use the extra money on another part of the build.

Absolutely nothing is wrong with that turbo, two years ago when i was planning the build that's the turbo i would of went with, more specifically an SC50. But now i want a real street friendly turbo, something that'll give me good topend and some added driveabililty... and with the GT series you get a little of both. I don't know, it's just something about having 200whp at 4750rpm that entices me.

If he's doing only 300whp on pump and doesnt/cant afford a BB turbo, thats what I would suggest. I loved mine. I had some sick as spool up times on mine for some reason too.

look its the dseries police.. your just mad you didnt get a bseries.. its ok.. i think there is a support group on here somewhere
GiNuWiNe, i agree.. a built 300whp dseries would probably be more reliable then a stock bottom LS

Re: (Threads)
Anybody have dyno's of their 300whp d-series. Specifically one's with Gt30r's variants, i want to see what kind of powerbands they produce. All 300whp dynos are welcome though.

Here's my setup w/ a 57trim .63a/r.
It spools quite nicely in my opinion- and I just came from a Greddy kit!

Re: Help me pick a turbo for the mighty D16 (GiNuWiNe)
Steve Simmon's D16Y8 spools T3/T04E w/ stage 3 turbine and .48 AR housing at 3000 rpms, boost immediately flies up to 10 psi by 3500. You should be able to run .63 housing and have 200 whp by 4750 rpms.
Ever considered GT30E? It's the GT-series swill without the baller bearing nonsense. Save $600-700, and get the efficient turbo you want.

Re: Help me pick a turbo for the mighty D16 (Joseph Davis)
i haven't considered the GT30E, but i have considered the GT3251e
I'm guessing although the number is higher "32" the GT3251e is smaller?
