Do you HAVE to run a filter on your turbo? Please post pics!!
Im running the FMAX mani on my b18b and dont have room to run a filter on the turbo. do you have any suggestions?? im just running wire mesh over it right now, my concern is the dust and grime from the road getting into the turbo. What can i use to make a filter or do they have a special filter that i can run?

Dirt, grime, rocks, pebbles, insects....... why invite all that into your motor? Would you run a CAI sitting on the floor with no filter?
Run a filter, your oil will thank you!

you dont HAVE too, its just better for your engine too run a filter, plus you'll avoid a lot of stuff like rocks that could kill your turbo. a lot of people are just going to home depot and buying the mesh stuff and clamping like a couple of layers of that on the turbo.
if you cant run a filter right now, at least put something over it, mesh, pantyhose, anything to prevent small things that could get in it and damage the turbo itself.
but IMO, i would run a filter to be on the safe side.

You don't have to do anything, but yes i would use a filter, why spend $500+ on a turbo and risk its life to run one without. Get some piping and make your own.

as in how can i make one fit? the turbo sits right below the engine code and there is a metal lip there that blocks my way from putting a filter there. i will try to get pics up to see if you guys have any suggestions

I understood your question you didnt understand my answer . Get 1 180 u bend and cut it in half, then cut off the excess you dont need. run the piping where it comes out of turbo and then goes up and then use the other end to redirect it toward passenger side. Maybe you need to post up pics of the engine bay so we can see hoe much room you have to play with.

I just came on here to post the exact same thing. I just fitted my turbo on and the inlet is about 2 inches away from the headlight, which blocks me from running piping and locating the filter somewhere else. I think I might disect my K&N and just use a sheet of the material inside of it with a good clamp.

I bought a sheet of that mesh wire, cut out a circle piece of it and clamped it down on the turbo...ran fine,a dn kept **** out. But I eventually bought a filter...b/c there is still a risk.

i hope everyone realizes that you actually LOSE power with the mesh filter.
This has been dyno proven with my own eyes.
ask tony from jotech he tuned the car. It was a type r and picked up 23 hp from taking the mess screen off.
Get a filter and do it right

I'll take a picture of my turbo and frame and you tell me how I should do it right. We're not posting because we're too cheap to buy a filter, this post was created because due to turbo placement we lack the room to have any type of piping or filter come off the inlet.

ok cool, theres always a way to work something out, you may need some dryer type hose that flexes and attach a filter to it, in another location in the bay.

Thank you! someone knows how to read! I just might try the dryer hose thing. Is it heat resistent or will it melt?

mesh loses power, HAHA
a filter is much more resrictive.
that's funny...dyno proven *bsflag* unless there was something else effecting it....a mesh pieve won't impede flow...unless it's so damn tight of a weave that nothing can get through.
the mess i'm running has holes about a 1/4" in it, it'll stop all the things that could damage it from getting in...and still have supurb flow

i dunno man. a lot of **** can get thru a 1/4" mesh. most people have described much finer mesh screens than that. and they *do* impede flow. why do u think every air filter on every car has a hell of a lot more cross-sectional area than the inlet to the engine/ throttle body?
