Default debating turbos...my 500-600whp build.

Well, Im picking up a EG this weekend, and have plenty of time to build the motor. I have the b18b lying around so I figure I'm just going to build the bottom end some with forged internals and grab a vtec head to build while i'm at it.

My last setup was a stock b18b with Garrett t3to4e .57trim .63 ar and that made some decent power. For this build on the built block I really want to hit about 550whp+ on some c16. But be able to get somewhat decent spool time out of it, for daily driving. (obviously not at the 500whp mark)

I have been looking around some, but i'm lost when it comes to reading compressor maps. The turbos I have been looking at are a variation of a sc61, gt35r (although thats the last resort unless i win the lottery). I see some t60-1's and t61's. Whats the difference between the two?

an sc61 would be good, if u can get the cash together for a 30r or a 35r, i would definately pick one of those up.

the gt30r would be stretched to make 550, its been done though. i think making above 550 on the 60-1 would be tough too.

60-1 is a 60mm turbo
t61, sc61, gt35r 61mm turbo(35r being the best since its BB and it has the more efficient gt series turbine wheel)
gt30r is a 57mm turbo

ehhh.. the SC61 has a wheel diameter of 61mm..

The GT35r is 82mm.. little bit of a difference there.

I like my SC61.. It's a great turbo. My particular setup likes to be reved. I'm sure a BB turbo is gonna be alot nicer on the street, as far as spool up goes, but I'm not to concerned with that. My setup is pretty much drag race only. It was my DD for the last couple of months, but I'm finally able to park it and just have fun with it. I'd definately go for a BB turbo if you can afford to. That's if you're concerned with spool up.

ehhh... its a pretty well known fact that the SC61 and GT35 have the EXACT SAME COMPRESSOR WHEEL... thats why the SC61 was raved over so much when it came out.

On my 84mm, 9.1:1 comp motor I make full boost on my GT35R @ 5,000RPMs on pump gas. I've got a very worked head, also.

SC61 with E housing will do it no problem. I have a customer making 645whp on his B16 with that turbo.

JUST get a GT35R ball bearing turbo.......63a/r turbine housing... best turbo for 500-600whp!!!

skip those sleeved bearing turbos... ball bearing don't just spool faster they last much longer...well from our experience!!!

good luck

gt35r is nice spooling turbo and will max out in the power range you are shooting for.

that turbo is known to push high 600's i would think there are better options for 500-600 that would spool a bit quicker

i personally would go with a 30r (some variants reach near 550whp+) and you will have much faster spool for pump gas tune that will be an easy 400whp on the streets

I have a long time time to get this car up and done (about a year) so I could save for a gt35r. I didnt reach my 300+whp goal on my last setup. Although i could have with more boost. But this time I really NEED to see at least the 550whp+ range. Its going to be lsvtec at this moment so I wont really have the advantage of revving to say 9k. So something that I can hit full boost under 5.5-6k would be nice with a redline about 8000-8200.

anyone with a sc61 care to post a dyno graph...or a approx RPM of spool time running about 500-600whp?

That first one is my customer I was speaking of. Im pretty sure its some kind of record for a short deck sc61 setup. We did a decent amount of work on that car like intercooler piping, downpipe, couple other things. This car has been known to throw a hard beat down on many, many cars in philly and surrounding areas

Just do the GT35R!!! On my customers EG HB his we made 615whp @ 21psi on C16 Race Gas and 455whp @14psi on 94 octane pump gas.

His motor consists of this:

LS Block
Darton Sleeves
JE 9:0.1 Comp. Pistons 84mm
Crower Billet Connecting Rods
Z10 Block Girdle

GSR Head
Crower Stainless Steel Valves
Crower Springs and Retainers
ITR Camshafts
JG Edelbrock Intake Manifold

And that's the basic setup plus all the other goodies like rail, regulator, radiator, injectors, pump, and etc. !!!!

i have a t67 and i think you want something with a little better spool time. on my last car i had a sc61 with the E covor. and that was on a stock b18b and i loved it. for your goals i would suggest getting the Scovor on the sc61. its the perfect affordable turbo for your goal. gt35r is a lot of money although its a nice turbo, i know for a fact youll be happy with the sc61S

this must have been on a t4 gt35r? because i dont think it would push out those numbers on those boost levels otherwise.

P.S. Go with the sc61s!!!

vband is just a housing, im sure you can get it in vband, if not they make an adapter.
