definately run a good quality filter if space allows.. even w/ a mesh screen, minute dirt/dust particles will still get in and make its way through the engine..

run w/o a filter for a few weeks, then take your finger and run it along the inlet port or blades and you see a small layer of silt dirt on your finger.. that's just the amounts that did not make it way in and out of the engine, imagine the other 99% that did..

I've done this myself and have seen the difference and will never run a turbo w/o a filter..

I have seen this problem with some air cleaners form APC. The inner metal pice gets sucked into the turbo when the glue lets up.

Any K&N filter will be ok. There quality units, stop panicking. Never had a problem with any of my turbo cars, use a quality filter and you will be fine.

Someone stated that the mesh screen probably melted. That is what I am thinking too, but I used it before..guess I got lucky.

Did you see if your friend still has it?

Anyone have a GT35R wheel for sale or know where I can get one. I have contacted a few people and even Turboelements, but have not heard from anyone.

when you get the new wheel, i would definetly invest in a nice K&N filter for it, i personally wouldnt run a $1200+ turbo without a filter esp if driven on the street

I just have no idea how I am going to make it fit when I got my radiator shroud cut up already and the turbo right there.

I have been looking for something for a while that would be a good turbo screen filter...as I dont drive my car in the rain or other detrimental weather, this would work nicely for me. Finally I have found something...cheap and easy that works. I have been running this in my car for about 2 weeks, testing to make the screen holds up and doesnt suck in. The nice part is that the OD of the measurement matches up to the most of the popular turbo inlet sizes. A simple coupler and two clamps make this a good looking, compact solution.

Right now I have a few of each, 4", 3" and 2.5" in stock and I am looking for a good rubber or silcone coupler material with inexpensive clamps that work to make a nice little kit that is cheap and easy to offer. If anyone wants to try this out, I will certainly just sell the screen portion.

that looks good i'm supprised that a company has not come out with a solution other than the big cone filters, like a flush filter for people running top mounts or that dont have the room.

Yeah its really not an every day driver solution, but it is simple and easy.

Depending on what I can find in the lines of couplers/clamps, I should be able to offer full screen kits for $15-20 which seems reasonable right?

its a shame that you couldnt come up with an idea like those screens that are inverted and fit a foam element inbetween 2 of them that way you get some filtration as well

Thought about that too...you might be able to put them back to back with a V-Band type setup...those clamps get expensive though. If you have a good foam filter though, the screen isnt necessary really I guess.

Exactly. Man, I cant believe that people would actually spend $700+ on a turbo then stick a piece of mesh or a EGay filter on it. You bet your *** I have a K&N on the end of my 2876R. Quit being so damn cheap [/end rant].

Sorry to bring this from the dead.

Has anyone ever tried a mesh screen then tried placing a foam filter like the one that comes with Greddy filters over it or even tearing apart an old filter (which some have mesh already on both sides). Then maybe another piece of mesh on top of the filter. So 3 total layers then clamped down.

I've done that before. I would use double screen mesh in front and cut up a hks mushroom filter and put that in front and another mesh around that. works well and filters your air.

nylon will melt and then stretch getting sucked into the comp easily. go to home depot, get the metal mesh screen. use a tbolt or another clamp and make sure its stretched. i use a pvc pipe for my intake on my turbo, and use two layers and two clamps to hold them on.

sorry about your new turbo man. you can only leanr from mistakes

use a METAL mesh from a strainer from like a grocery store. around two dollars cut to fit keep the round shape with a good clamp shouldn't be an issue.

that is if you use a mesh. sand, gravel etc will still damage the wheel.

I use a K&N goin on 2 years no problems.
