Default D series Oil Pump Mods For Better Flow and Presure

Hey guys did some resarch and my own testing.

I bought a brand new Honda oil pump for the D series $80bucks CDN

Here are some pics

This pic notice the small opening, Ill open it up a bit with the dremel and smothin it out.

Also the oil pick-up tube i will port match.

Blending in the Oil pick up and the oil feed hole will smoth things out.

Disasembling: Straight forward remove the 6 screws and remove the cover.

Mark the oil gears with a marker.

These are the oil pump gears.

Now if u notice here the plug is ruffly the same depth when it goes in the oil feed hole.I'm going to weld about .5" of medal on to the bolt and seal it and screw it in so when it is in the hole it will be parrel with the oil hole. Then i will smoth it all out.

Now for the Oil control jet which controls the oil pressure i will shim it .025 thosands to increase the oil pressure

Check this out http://www.theoldone.com/artic..._tips/

I wonder if you can cryo treat the the "pump gear" so it will be heavy duty like the toda forged gears. Or if there is a aftermarket gear for the d series oil pump.

Cool... Are you going to see how much psi it puts out afterwards? I may try to attempt this too when I get around to building a project motor.

I checked prodrives website and they only have one for the prelude and gsr. Will either of those gears fit a d series pump?

The gears will not fit B series are bigger.

I will assemble my motor next month and post my oil presure numbers at idle and under full throtle.

I have a 4ft long -3 oil feed line and a oil cooler on my D series.

Dahm guy ill get u a price thats out to lunch if iam correct ur motor is around $80 CDN which is $60us funds

Maybe this part is cheaper in Canada

All i know is when I used to work for HONDA the guys from NY would come buy parts off us like 35,000g's every year. So im guessing some of our prices are cheaper.

The price thing made me wonder what I could get one for so I was checed out the oil pumps on http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com

The one for the d16y8 is 61.70

And there is 2 different ones for the d16z6 one is 108.06 and the other is 112.12

Are all of these pumps the same?

EDIT:I checked out slhonda and got part numbers.

D16z6
15100-P06-A01
15100-P06-A02

D16y8
15100-P2A-A01

The reason im doing this is cause when u put a turbo kit on the car u loose some oil pressure plus i got a oil cooler on the car so that takes a bit of flow and psi also.

So I know on my Dodge 2.2 i did this mod on the stock pump and i noticed the presure at idle up 2psi and at top end 2-4psi.

peace of mind. Thats my view.

My oil pump part number for my z6 was 15100-P2A-305, and was $107.11. I had a breakdown that explained the honda part number digits, but can't find it.

Whats wrong with the stock, un-modified pump to begin with? I have never seen any problems with oiling on any Honda..........

exactly
i asked my buddy that is being racing for years....
he said on the 12 years hes been reacing hondas and acuras , and many other cars, he has never seen an issue with hondas or acuras with their oil pumps, as either breaking or having problems pumping the nesesary pressure..

as a matter of fact.. when i blew my motor.. was due to a spun bearing particles that kept clogging my pick up filter from the pump and thats ho wi starved my engine... other than that... Honda OEM pumps are good as they are

Since you have your heart set out to mess with a good thing...I wouldnt use the welded plug cause a piece of it could break off and blow the motor.Try and find a piece of brass(I think the plug is that material,if not try to match it) that you could use a die on to make one solid piece.

Yeah im going to look today for that and see what i can do for a longer plug

Cause i was going to welded it up and re-thread it and then take some JB weld and put on the end of the plug and thread it in and right when i thighten it take my finger and force it all in around the gaps to fill them in then let it try then take the dremel and blend it in.

As for a piece braking off if it did it would go striaght to the oil filter and get stuck in there.
