Default Crower = blows

really sick of hearing how much stuff is going wrong with crowers parts. friends crower cams broke and destroyed his motor, then another friend today, at 7000rpm broke his crower TITANIUM retainers, and i have also heard about a dozen other big problems with crower. Whats up with their quality the last year or so? seems pretty shady, did APC take over them? sorry, just venting

Crower just came out with some new D series cams and I was considering getting one. If anyone else has any info on the import Crower stuff keep us posted.
They have a good name with the V8 crowd. Maybe they are just developing the import stuff too fast????

I'm the one that Mark was referring to with the broken camshaft. Exhaust cam broke into 4 pieces.

Today I witnessed the broken retainer. Looks like somebody wanted a bigger hole in it. The valve and keepers are still attached to the broken retainer. Pics coming pending conversation with Crower.

BTW, their rods are damn strong. But I wouldn't touch their valve train components again.

I friend of mine had Crower turbo H22 cams in, one of them broke nearly right after he got the car running. I didn't believe in the the bad things people said about Crower, until I saw it with my own eyes.

I was going to get some Crower turbo cams for my built gsr motor but just decided to stick with the stock ones for now. Jg built my bottom end with Crower rods....sure hope they hold up. As for valve springs and retainers i went with Type-R equipment.

Cant go wrong when it comes to OEM parts (TYPE R STUFF)

BTW, this is the first I have heard of horrible crower quality. Might rethink what rods I was planning to use in my "Secret project car"

Perhaps some custom Carillos.....Never heard bad things about those

there rods are solid. Ther pro racing rods are i am not sure about ther new line rods for 12psi applications. But i know for fact that the pro racing rods works perfect and never had issue.

If you plan on doing anything with your head use ferrea components works hell of lot better.

yeah, but the stock rods can handle that much boost. WTF is going on there?

The real sad part of the story is that he did build this motor right. All quality parts, installed 100% correctly. And the motor only has 15k miles on it.

Crower, you fucked my motor, and now a friend of mine's. **** you, Brian Crower.

I am not defending Crower here but alot of people will put the blame on the product. This is not fair considering all the people who are happy with their product. There are so many parts when putting together an engine and it is not always the broken part that was the cause. Engine builders hate to take the blame for their own mistakes or oversights. I hate to see things like this happen but I still have confidenece in their product. When you are trying to make upwards of 500 h.p. out of a 4 banger, face it, things will break

Are you sure they were installed correctly? I have never heard any problems about their non vtec stuff but I have only heard a few problems about their vtec stuff.

I would check with Crane and Comp Cams. They're the only cams I used back in the day and they're both great. I also liked Ford's Motorsport cams, especially that E cam. Of course, I doubt they make them for Hondas

Just my 2 pennies but crower products have worked and still do work great for me. We are using crower springs/retainers and cams in the all motor car, matter of fact we had the 403s work great all last season and brian just made us a custom grind and it works fine too oh and it is taken up 9500 rpms. I use crower springs/retainers/valves in my street car with no problems and i now have the turbo cams that will be used shortly. My friend also uses crower springs/retainers/valves/cams (403) in his all motor street car and has no problems. I don't know but something sounds fishy.

There are always skeptics...

Myself, I am always one to post the good and the bad. You'll always hear the truth from me, be it good, bad, or incriminating. I'm not a shop, or employed by anyone. I do it for the love, nothing more.

That said, they were installed correctly. In fact, the keepers are still installed as we speak. The center portion of the retainer is still attached to the valve. You'll just have to wait for the pictures. I've installed tons of Skunk, Portflow JUN, Toda and many other company's valve train products. Crower has been the only one I know of to (repeatedly, no less) fail for no reason other than being inferior. However, I do have one customer with a full Crower valve train in an LS, works fine and has for one year so far.

You can be skeptic all you want, but I've been in this game (Honda performance that is) for nearly 8 years now. I've been there, done that, tuned that, installed that, pulled that, fixed that, swapped that. Not much I haven't seen - but this was a first. I think crower should stick with what they are good at - building rods.

Hah, actually Brian is a pretty Nice guy, I delt with him a few times.

I have heard that Crowers first few batchs of Vtec Valve train equipment was just ****, but I was told that everything has been corrected and updated... maybe not?

As far as their Rods, well lots of people have used them without any problems, I think they are pretty much good to go.

Maybe Crower just still needs some Development time before they release this stuff.

OEM Works for the NA crowd. I just used USDM Type R cams, springs, and intake vavles. We'll see how it all works though in a few weeks.....sadly no turbo yet....even though I do have the parts.

i have been running my crower retainers, springs and cams for about a year. its my LS that Vapor was talking about. I have yet (yet) to have a problem, but i think if i am it would have shown up by now. I know alot of people that have been un happy with the products. i have only been upset by the level of tech info i have gotten from brian.
I have a jrsc LS, with a hybrid 402/403 cam setup. when i first ordered the cams brian suggested the 403/403. so ok, he is the expert right? well months later (and lots of stalling), i sat down, did all the paper work and re-did my specs. When i called in to order just the intake cam, I told him i had too much duration and the car was stalling alot (it sux to keep your foot on the throttle just to idle at stop lights). His reply was "Yeah, you're prob right"
I can't really endorse their product, but i can say the parts have never let me down (physically)... of course IF something happens to break, it will be a different story.
