CJ Motorsports is building 2 hardcore turbo street hondas!
Just felt like sharing the information, we are pretty excited about another project car we are doing for a customer. The car is a 2001 Civic Si. Last year I did some work on it and it made 246fwhp at 7psi. A few months later his buddy speed shifted into 2nd rather then 4th... his AVC-R peak held 9700 RPM I think. After that incident his engine ran rough and compression was low on 1 cylinder.
So on a budget at that time, he had a kid in a garage work on pulling his engine out. They made 0 progress. Well now he has decided that he wants to do it right, so he has come up with some cash and brought the project back into our hands.
He has purchased a built used shortblock. The block was built by a few people and ran at the track last year a few times. The old owner has moved on to a larger displacement motor... so we got this one and we are in the process of rebuilding it. It needs a hone and new rings from sitting in a garage uncovered, and we are changing the bearings while in there. It has Darton sleeves, crower rods, and JE pistons. We are putting his B16 head on there after puting in some GSR cams.
We are hopeing to make the same 250fwhp at just slightly higher boost (lower compression this time). Once we get it all running mint and any bugs worked out we are moving on to a E-Manage and changing out his 310cc's with 440s. We are going for a reliable 300fwhp street racer car. Traction and skills permitting, this should be a reliable 12 second street honda. I have heard of several in the area, but never seen one. This will be a cool project tho for sure, I will post updates once the block is back from the machine shop.
As for the second car... we have a 94 Si. SHOULD run before I have to go to Vegas on business on the 22nd. This one is based on the original SOHC VTEC D16. In it we have Eagle Rods, SRP Pistons 9:1, ARP Headstuds, CM Stage 3 i think, Crower Springs and Retainers, Crower D16 Turbo cam (anyone else using this?). We sent the head to our good friend and head master Dale Forrester, of Forrester Racing Heads. He ported the head throughly for us. We also used Stainless Steel Valves. New water and oil pumps, etc etc.
This D16 Engine build was amazing... the low cost of all the parts for this engine is wicked. I have more $$$ into the machine work on my race engine than it took to pay for all the parts, machine, and build this one. I love the SOHC. The engine currently has a itty bitty Greddy 15g. Once the engine is running mint we are ditching the FMU and using electronic management, then we are gonna try stuffing a Garret T28 turbo on the Greddy manifold and port out the mani. We also have a large spearco front mount to pipe in. Goals? We really do not know what to expect from this buildup. We just want to see the car run some 12's. With that T28, hmm... I dunno... 275rwhp? We will see. Fun project none-the-less.

Your shooting for 300whp on a built/sleeved motor? People are making that power on stock motors. But I am impressed with the b series motor in the 2001 civic, that is nice. Btw when you switch from the 310cc injectors go to at least 550's or larger.

sleeved with forged pistons and rods and 275whp? is this 1998?
go for 500whp+
go for 500whp+
yeah, I'm going for that on a pistons & rods D16.
step it up a notch.

Hehe... you guys are right, these are conservative goals. However I am not sure how many of you have finished your projects and actually have them running... but both these cars are daily drivers and need to stay reliable. I am all about overkill.
While you fellows are all very correct, these engines are both capable of much higher power... that just isnt the current goal. The goal is reliability and an engine that runs AWESOME. For sure these projects will be seeing much more HP in the FUTURE... I was just informing you of what we are currently doing with them tho. Anyone can preach the future, but before I claim 400hp I want to see the engine running!!!
If the engines make more HP, you guys will be the 1st to know (other than the cars owners).... but I am not about making false claims until the project is producing. Our current goals are very resonable expectations, anything beyond that is starting to get ahead of ourselves... know what I mean?
Thanks,
Charles

Charles good luck with your projects. I went to one of your dyno days and I have to say, you know what you're doing. I love your pearl white mr2. That thing is dope. One thing I like about you is that you help people out. My friend only paid for the three runs and you were cool enough to give him a couple of more runs to get more power out of his car. You actually want to help people out and not just take their money. For all of you in Chicago, dyno your car at CJ motorsports. Charles is the man.

Re: CJ Motorsports is building 2 hardcore turbo street hondas! (TurboCX)
Good luck on the buildups I wouldnt use the words hardcore though unless you are makin 500+ whp. you want to talk reliable. frank from SFP.net has a 708whp full interior, not a thing removed from the car Civic Si. He drives the car several days a week and out to the street races all the time. Now thats hardcore!! I hope to duplicate his 640whp on boost this month. i'm not going to spray my car this time.

....uh yea. my car made 250 fwhp at 8 psi and a stock motor driven 50 or more miles a day and i would not consider it hardcore by any means. we build all our street cars that fast if not much faster. lol ... no flaming intended.

haha yeh don't use the word hardcore. I already have the power u guys are talkin about on a stock LS motor w/ just a bolt on kit and hondata. its not that hard to do. go for 500 w/ reliability to boot.

Haha... ok I like all the sarcasm! If you wanna be rough about it ill put it like this: I am used to cars with strong engines that can handle 400-500 hp stock, and only needs pistons, cams, and springs for more!!! So compared to the typically buildup on factory turbo cars these are considered hardcore! Be easy on me please! I am just taking it easy and doing what I can to get these engines running mint! If you guys are correct and we end up with 400+ HP, then... sweet!
Like i said, one step at a time... Step 1: Build the engine, Step 2: Make it run perrrrfect, Step 3: see what it can do! Just trying not to get ahead of myself!
I always pass Step 1.5: BS about how much power its gonna make!
Not to mention... I was claiming the buildups themselves to be hardcore... not the potential HP. The fact that the engines are fully built with almost everything you can do for a street motor... well there you go! hardcore! Big turbos and maxing out the boost comes later.
