Default Boostfed Racing/RLZ Engineering:Just an update on my motor and set up...................

Before you read this I wanted to put a disclaimer in here, RLZ DID NOT BUILD THIS FIRST MOTOR that popped a local machine shop did!

Here is an update to this thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1447804

Well after dynoing my car and popping a headgasket , I pulled the head and sleeves did not sink THANK GOD!!!!! The #4 cylinder exhaust side stud did not take much effort to loosen while all others were torqued WELL! These were torqued and rechecked and rechecked to ensure proper torque. Well after pulling the head I noticed none of the cylinder walls had any Crosshatch in them and a funny sandlike stuff on top of each of my pistons. I have not completely pulled the block out (Terry is LAZY) but did pop all pistons and rods out. All the bearings look good! The #2 and #4 pistons looked fine BUT #3 piston had slight scuffing on intake and exhaust side. #1 piston is F***ED!!!! Scuffing bad on the skirts. I sent these pistons/rods/bearings and my head down to RLZ Engineering to check out, make sure the head is perfectly flat and also check out the bearings and skirts on the pistons. It has been determined that the clearances were not correct for piston to wall! No worries since I have new Wiseco pistons on the way now. This information EXPLAINS alot of why my torque was low and power was not as high as it should have been at 32psi 714whp/470 ft-lb torque BUT when initially tuning car 610whp was made on only 20-21 psi. Also one thing the turbo spooled slow on high boost, one bolt was completely gone from turbo to mani and one was very very loose so we did have a bad exhaust/boost leak causing spool up to be slow and sure power/torque.

My set up impressed a customer sooooo much that he insisted I sell him all my stuff off my car since I was gonna be down due to the headgasket(He is a Streetracer in NC). He gave me a LARGE CHUNK OF CASH for my mani, 3" dp( I still got the 5" dp) 2.5" IC piping, Turbo, WG and BOV etc etc $3600 CASH money. I didn't want to do it BUT he insisted SO I just reordered all my stuff

I have some Wiseco pistons on the way with a VERY TRUSTWORTHY RLZ Engineering doing all machine work to my block, I will most likely go down there to assemble the motor myself and clearance everything with Brad Z aka MAX_CFM and Howard's aka airshifter help. Will be 84mm bore now from the 83mm bore I had before. We did have some blowby issues before also which perplexed us and we knew something wasn't right with the power when we turned the boost up.

I will post up results soon, also I have a Full Race Top Mount and 4" dp on the way and FR GT4088R too, we shall see what kind of power all this will make.

Thanks to Geoff, Todd and Anthony from Full Race for always supporting me and also Brad and Howard from RLZ Engineering. I was truly hoping to only have to swap a headgasket BUT things happen. Moral to story don't listen to your machinist(I knew this and was weary) when they say they only need one piston to bore all cylinders.

Again a local machine shop did the machining on this block NOT RLZ! I completely trust RLZ and am looking for some good results.

BTW clearance was .0035" recommended by Arias even shooting for 800whp. One piston was used to bore all cylinders SO who is to say one piston may have been off, we don't know. More info once my block is in Brad's hands also!

I imagine that each piston wasnt measured and stamped for each cylinder. I cant believe that some machine shops only measure ONE piston and give all four cylinders the same clearances.

CJ, Make sure Terry DOES NOT get the same manifold that you guys made for me. Build him that new Fullrace log manifold I heard about.

Dang Terry, I hope the cost doesn't hurt your wallet too much (sell me more stuff!!!), Anyway, I know your "new" setup will be great and my wishes for good luck are not needed but in any case good luck!!!

Thats what I was thinking. This is a great example of you get what you pay for. A lot of engine builders can make tons of power, but their motors just don't last. (Terry, obviously you can vouch for that). For people just getting into the sport and building high output motors for the first time, do yourself a favor and shop around for builders...don't just go to a shop that close to you!

Terry, I promise I will come over this weekend and wrench on the car with you. The GF is busy all weekend, so I'm free.
