Better/more air to radiator or not?

Re: Better/more air to radiator or not? (wade)
What about these radiator cooling plates? Has anyone here tried them? I've tried searching the FI forums for them, but it seems to be untested with FI people.

x2? i will order one on these and put it to the test and see if anything changes.
I have thought about cutting most of the plate off and just have the little 90deg bit that is sitting on the radiator to make sure a little bit more air goes through the radiator?
I will update you guys this week, will be wrapping DP and doing a few other things.
Cheers for the help so far, would be good to know where to buy the Jackson racing thermo.

On the first generation Dodge neon equipped with the half size rad there is a plastic blockoff akin to your metal one. If engineers spent the time to design it and the bean counters approved it, I would say it's a good idea.

A good alternative to a fast opening t-stat is a restictor.I've used them in stock cars for years.Just make an aluminum disk with a hole in the center and replace the t-stat with it. Something like this http://www.moroso.com/catalog/...29018

I would get a FAL fan and the Mugen thermostat and switch it helps so much..Especally at the track in Texas summer heat, the fan flowed so much more air to the radiator than the universal one.

Re: (Rico)
I posted this in this thread a few months back. My car in the summer heat (well high 90's low 80's for now) only gets to 193-195 at the highest.

I too was having cooling issues or at least I didn't like the engine running 205 on water temp all the time nor did I like having to the put heat on in the summer.
My old setup consisted of a Autozone 12" fan that I got for like $50 but it wasn't helping at all. I found out it was rated at like 800cfm which simply isn't enough. So I did some looking around and found this fan from Permacool (smaller than the one Platinum used BUT I used it as a puller).
http://store.summitracing.com/...w=sku
I figured this should be plenty for me. After driving it to the battle of the imports, I have determined it works extremely well. I use Neptune RTP and set the fan to kick on @ 175. The water temp gauge NEVER got above 190 so I may fiddle with neptune a little to bring that up maybe a little. Simple software change. I changed NOTHIGN else in the car at all.
All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this fan. It was worth every penny and I'm glad I ditched the other one. Oh and it is actually pretty quiet. I was surprised.
Here are some pics of comparison. And yes, it was a tight fit.
Underneath shot
Top shot.
Also, if you do NOT have AC, you need to do this. It forces air to the radiator.
Simple piece of aluminum from Lowe's. Really helps when traveling on the highway especially.
Hope this helps others.

I am having heating issues as well. I am told that a lot of BB turbos since they are also water cooled really contributes to this. So will doing all the following bring temps down.
Current set up Half radi. on S fan pushing.
1. Ordered a Jackson Racing Thermostat
2. Spoon Rad. cap.
3. Water wetter
4. Heat wrap my down pipe
5. Fan switch
6. Spoon heat tape...**anyone try this yet?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW
Summer is going to start kicking and I need to keep my temps down to prevent premature detonation...

Re: (Urugly)
1. *** the JR thermostat, stay OEM a lower temp themo isn't gonna help.
2. The plate you made is perfect, actually on honda's that do NOT have AC as an option have a plate there. The reason is air takes the path of least resistance. It is easier to go around your radiator than through it. With the plate, air will now be forced to go throught he radiator.
3. Wrap your downpipe, forget thermal coatings, use wrap.
4. Get a smaller, less dense intercooler. It could be blocking most of the air to your radiator.
5. get a vented hood. Do not do the jdm hood prop, its gay and does not work very well.

RETARDED, serves absolutely no purpose on that car other then looks. Same goes for for all Honda's before 2001 and maybe some of the newer ones as well. Now on a Nissan or other car with a gap there, it's another story.

You need the fan above and put it on a toggle switch. There are a few other things you can do to combat overhating.
1) Use more water than antifreeze (60/40 or 70/30 depending on your climate)
2) Use a bottle of water wetter
3) High pressure Rad Cap
4) Use an ems to change when the fans kick on or use a spoon or mugen thermoswitch to kick them on earlier.
