Default need practical advice in tuning

D16A6 engine, OBD1, Neptune RTP with CBR 959RR ITBs.
i need to get the car idling and running well enough to get to a tuner. anyone with any advice on doing so in Neptune, please chime in.
i currently am attempting to get the primary map set at Alpha-N with massive enrichment over stock values for idle and low RPM, low TPS (as i have read). the engine bogs and backfires at low RPM, and seem to miss at higher RPMs. overtime, the engine dies completely, i am thinking starvation.
i do not have a wideband meter at the moment, but i cannot even get the car running long enough for that to matter.

What colour are your spark plugs and are they wet or dry? Best way to see what your combustion chamber is doing if you don't have a wideband.

What have you done to the engine internally? I wouldn't imagine that a stock D16 with 4x40mm throttles would require that much fuel enrichment.

What is your idle setup? Are you using a vacuum line from each throttle to a vacuum log/box to maintain the stock MAP sensor?

Definitely get a wideband. Check plugs as well. How do you have the Alpha-N setup currently? Primary/Secondary maps set to what? What map switch settings?

Without a wideband there isn't much anyone can tell you to get it running right.

You can try to get it running/idling decent on SD before trying to get it running right on Alpha-N or a combo of both.

thank you all for the responses. i have waited until i got some more info to respond back.
i have just now received my cleaned and flown injectors and will go back to the car tomorrow to try again, read the plugs and report back. i have made a new base tune to accommodate the flow rate of the injectors (i was harbouring under the wrong info before) and left it SD only for now.

Run straight TPS based. Are you running a vacuum tank?

have you measured or balanced the vacuum in each throttle? If you have a 15% variance between cylinders it doesn't matter what your O2 reads, it'll run like ***** until you balance the vacuum. That also makes your tuner's job easier, and might save you some money.

I have a vacuum log and I had connected the MAP sensor to it today.
With the new injectors and learning about fuel trim option in Neptune I was able to get it idling well with about 1% duty cycle. I haven't the chance to read the plugs nor try to get the rest of the rpm range tuned.
I am still using SD mode, and try to get the engine running well enough on that before switching alpha N blend.
Regarding syncing. I might be mistaken but since the bodies have never been taken apart and coming from a bike I didn't think they needed syncing.
I will do some pulls at the airport tomorrow and read the plugs.

The engine is stock internally (stock compression that is.) with a stock head.
Pistons and rods are aftermarket but unaltered in compression.
I am controlling idle with the cbr idle screw, I have disabled IACV.

If that is the case then you need to sync the throttles to ensure that they all have equal vacuum. You do this with a carb sync tool and adjusting the throttle air adjustment screws on all 4 throttles. As mentioned above, it makes tuning a lot easier when this is carried out prior to any fuel map adjustments.

Now that you have it idling you should be able to sync the throttles. Do you know anyone that owns a bike shop or anyone who might have a carb/throttle sync tool?

If you were handy to me I'd let you borrow mine....

I don't, but since I own a bike and a 240z with multicarbs, I should own a sync tool anyway.

The Motion Pro SyncPro is the tuner that I bought a few years back. It works great for the price. Handy little tool to have around if you have other vehicles with carbs/throttles.

Off topic, have you had the chance to get the MS working off Honda VR signal yet?

Never had a chance yet... I had it running with my Moates ECU simulator though. I have the MSIII installed in my Mazda right now.

Shame. I gave my MS2 away because I couldn't get it to pick up the signal from the Honda distributor, but I would love to have staged injectors.

when extremely lean or rich condition doesnt narrowband stay in that voltage?

say for example it is over 15 afr wouldnt it fluctuate at slower rate than say 13 afr?

wheni had the FAKEfr gauge it would still show rich or lean at throttle tip in and deceleration.

can you use neptune to log the narrowband input and watch the graph instead of voltage.
