Default DataLog Adaptor Question

I been looking around for a datalogger cable so I can hook up to my p05 but my problem is I would like it on wensday(X-mas Eve). I dont think its possible without pay 100 dollars for shipping. Well I been working on some jumper cables for a robot project I been helping out with and something caught my attention. Well i know most people use the nokia dku-5 cables or the hondalog. I am in a jam with time so I thought about this:

1 DCD IN Data Carrier Detect. Raised by DCE when modem synchronized.
2 RD IN Receive Data (a.k.a RxD, Rx). Arriving data from DCE.
3 TD OUT Transmit Data (a.k.a TxD, Tx). Sending data from DTE.
4 DTR OUT Data Terminal Ready. Raised by DTE when powered on. In auto-answer mode raised only when RI arrives from DCE.
5 SGND - Ground
6 DSR IN Data Set Ready. Raised by DCE to indicate ready.
7 RTS OUT Request To Send. Raised by DTE when it wishes to send. Expects CTS from DCE.
8 CTS IN Clear To Send. Raised by DCE in response to RTS from DTE.
9 RI IN Ring Indicator. Set when incoming ring detected - used for auto-answer application. DTE raised DTR to answer.

I have db9 connectors so can I hook up 2,3 and 5 to the ecu and then buy this cable:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1110263657278

and connect it to the db9 connection.

Also usb are only RX, TX, Ground and 5 volt. Why cant you just connect it directly to your ecu?

1 VCC +5V
2 D- Data -
3 D+ Data +
4 GND Ground
