Default Car registered in arizona, just got a CA ref ticket

I did some searching and saw that other people posted about their ref tickets here. I couldn't find any information relating to my situation so i decided to post a new thread.

First, my car is a 90 CRX with a B16a, header/intake/exhaust. Registered in havasu city, AZ (SMOG EXEMPT). The cop pulled me over because he saw smoke from the tail pipe, made me pop the hood and the whole rigamaroll... I have a california drivers license so im not sure if that is going to work against me.

I got CVC 27156 ref ticket with the sticker on the back saying i can't drive my car with cvc 24004.

Other cvc's on the ticket are cvc 4000 and cvc 4152. I also got a speeding cvc.. 22405.

So.. My question here is, what do i do? Am i really barred from driving my out of state vehicle because of a california ref ticket? Or is the ticket invalid?

I'd appreciate any help

You handed him a CA license. If you have a really really good reason to still have the car registered in AZ maybe the judge will help you out. Otherwise meet bar requirements or sell the car.

Just pay the ticket and you won't have to pass/deal with ref

I was under the impression that they didn't allow you to just pay it off anymore. I could be wrong!

They wont let you just pay the ticket... I did the same thing you did but for nevada and they were about to take my license away.

If you have time call the reff shop and set an appointment... pretty sure if you dont settle this soon the next time you get pulled over the will impound the car.

Yep with a California Drivers license it doesnt matter where the car is registered. If the car is in your name there is no reason it should be registered in another state if you have a cali DL. This is the way the court will look at it.

Most of that cvc nonsense are for failing to register the car in California, namely cvc 4000 and cvc 4152.

CVC 27156 is because you violated some emissions code - did the cop tell you what specifically was not California compliant? My guess is your header/intake/exhaust are all illegal.

CVC 22405 is specific to driving on a bridge or in a tunnel - No person shall drive a vehicle on any bridge, elevated structure, tube, or tunnel constituting a part of a highway, at a speed which is greater than the maximum speed which can be maintained with safety to such structure. Were you speeding through one of these? If not the ticket may not be valid. I'm not a lawyer... I just Googled all that crap out of interest. Sounds like the cop didn't like you very much.

Welcome to Nazifornia

The ticket will need to be dealt with one way or another if you plan on living in Cali. Your car will need to be BAR'd. The easiest way to pass BAR inspection is to rock 100% stock everything on your B16A. It's not hard to pass. Also BAR does not perform an emissions test, they only perform a visual inspection (as of 2010) that may have changed in the last 2 years. The engine is a Civic engine in a Civic. No problem there. The engine must be the same year or newer then the car it's in. The correct USDM computer must be in place. OEM or CARB legal components must be used. Call BAR if you have questions: BAR Referee Scheduling Center 800.622.7733

I suggest you try and get the speeding ticket thrown out if you were not on a bridge or tunnel. In the process of contesting the ticket the cop may not even show up, in which case all of it will be thrown out by default.

First, you don't ever have to open your property. It's your property. Human Rights come before any laws. A cop will always put a question in to a command.

Wrong:

2804. A member of the California Highway Patrol upon reasonable
belief that any vehicle is being operated in violation of any
provisions of this code or is in such unsafe condition as to endanger
any person, may require the driver of the vehicle to stop and submit
to an inspection of the vehicle, and its equipment, license plates,
and registration card.

They do not have permission to search the inside of the vehicle or the trunk without probable cause. However the engine compartment is fair game to CHP.

I could not agree with you more. If we want to change it - organize a militia, 100% American, and have a revolution. I didn't say I agree with California's bullshit laws. I have to deal with them just like the rest of us, and they infuriate me, but in the end big brother wins, and will always win because we Americans can't stand together on anything.

This can of worms has been open for decades, no one wants to deal with it, no one knows how to deal with it. The system has removed all means of dealing with it unless we resort to violence. If you really want to learn about American roots start reading about the founding fathers of this country. We were founded out of revolution, and we are overdue for another.

you must not be from cali period lol. If you are go outside.

EJ8_Man is correct just grin and bear it and run a stock airbox/catalytic converter/OBD0-OBD1+delsol vtec ecu and pass the ref, although Im worried about the initial reason the CHP pulled you over. He said you were blowing smoke like spyhunter, and this will def net you a no-pass unless this is due to a rich condition of using the wrong ecu-setup.

EJ8_man we are on the same PAGE...people are enslaved to what society calls a job..."living the dream" we the people give the power to these puppets of the puppet masters. Example: Why did the US gov. take Nikola tesla (Father of WIRELESS) inventions when he died and funny enough income tax was never ratified by the states in 1913 when the then acting sec. of treasury was bought out by the faces of the wealthy JP morgan, warburg, John D rockefeller ILLEGALLY so why are we being TAXED without representation clearly we are not being represented in OUR gov.

1913 was a pivotal year for the United States. The reason for the income tax act which you are referring to was to accommodate Woodrow Wilson's Federal Reserve Act. It was this entity that initiated the ruin of this county, and Wilson knew it.

"I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world. No longer a government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men." Woodrow Wilson

Thank you all for your insights, and sorry for my delay in response. I plan to try to contest the ticket all together via a Trial By Declaration so i can stretch it out as much as possible, and then hopefully the cop will not respond and i can cite a few smog related sources (mainly that, federally, my car is smog exempt according the EPA [21 years]) and then i can try to contest the speed ticket also. Im going to use the fact that i live in arizona to mostly contest the ticket.

Wish me luck haha.
