Race Head Mods...
I'm Locking my Vtec and will no longer use small Lobes. I used a Diy Grinder to do this. It took about 13 Minutes and a LOT of Noise. DOES ANYONE know of an easier way off removing the Rocker Pad. The way I did this one just doesn't seem worth it. We are playing with Grams/Assembly and Pounds/Seat....

Re: Race Head Mods...
Cannot afford them and last time I used an aftermarket(Expensive) Rocker I ran into Geometry issues... I can Cut these off after all said and done I should be able to save 28g per assembly. So 28g Exhaust and another 28g on the Intake. You can really feel the weight difference w/out a scale. But, considering my Valve Springs give me 85lbs on the Seat would it really be worth the time?

Re: Race Head Mods...
True which is why I'm thinking about dropping 12g per valve and removing the unused Pad. I just don't know if it's worth doing. But, in total with the Locking Pins, I should be able to cut out around 25g weight pe assembly...

Good idea! I think it will benefit the engine by lightening the load on the valve springs. Every little bit counts. Less contact. Less Friction. Less wear.
But as far as removing the rocker pads accurately and correctly, thats machine shop territory imo.

Its good to drop the weight as long as its over the valve. If it is weight riding on the rocker shaft then don't waste your time. Make sure you don't take any rigidity out of the rocker. Buy the SpeedFactory Titanium lockout pins. They are inexpensive and take some weight out.

If all the weight you take out was hanging on the shaft, I am not sure where you would find gains. It may not hurt anything as long as you didn't affect the stiffness of the rocker..but what is to gain? You can make a fixture to measure how many grams you have sitting on the shaft and how many are riding in motion with the valve. Since this is taking weight out of the middle of the rocker, some is going to be riding on the valve. That is also a real high stress point in that rocker carrying all the load.
Put a set of stock ones in the motor, and a set of these where the material was removed and measure how much deflection you have in the rocker with a heavy valve spring. An easy way to get a general idea is just to see how much valve lift you lost.

Re: Race Head Mods...
BOOM ROCKIN!!. Removed exactly 30g from each assembly in total. Worth it maybe, preoccupied me for around 8hrs. Finished off with a Shot Peening. I tried to get some close ups with the Rockers, but my Camera is pos at night. They should hold together fine...We'll see what Motor Part fail happens next, but atleast Vtec will be kicked

Sub'd for info for later use. Always thought about killing vtec for weight savings/response, but roller rockers are so pricey and can affect geometry. This seems like a great idea.
Do post later how it goes!

Re: Race Head Mods...
I really removed the Vtec because, I have a Head pieced together... The Stock Rockers and Pins was mixed and worn out. I was having a recurring issue with my Retainers getting fuckered, Vtec lobe Float!!

When you were asking, "DOES ANYONE know of an easier way off removing the Rocker Pad", were you asking if anyone had an easier way of grinding off material to lighten the rocker pad? Or were you asking if anyone had an easier way of removing the rocker itself? I'm wondering, because I didn't think there was any grinding involved in removing the rockers

Re: Race Head Mods...
Well didn't get to experience 4th gear wot. Underpowered the Car and still went in the Dirt. 2nd day running.
14psi in 1st video. 8k rev limit was highest.
14psi in 1st pull. Upped to Target 18psi at 96mph and still ate ****.
Rookie mistake!!

Re: Race Head Mods...
According to DDTech on his nitrous NA build thread, there is not accelerated wear on lobes or rockers by killing the vtec function. The way he put it:
Ask yourself this, is there accelerated wear by going into vtec normally?

Re: Race Head Mods...
other than multiplying who knows how many times the operating cycle of the vtec lobes? You all know nothing is free. Might last 200,000mi, might last 20,000mi. I don't have that data. But I don't think that it will be the same as running low and high lobes. For race car, I'm sure its no big deal. But I guess someone with a street car that gets some miles on it will be able to put their 2 cents in.
