Who's old enough to remember the World's Fastest 1.5l CRX?
So, If you can remember when our industry consisted of show/race cars that
looked just as good as they ran, you might be able to remember this car. These
pictures go back a long time, and show the way our scene used to be. Some
people call it the beginning of the ricer fad, but those of us who were there
remember things a little differently. This car was built by Jason Whitfield of
Rage Performance fame, and the now dearly departed and sorely missed
Shaun Carlson of NuFormz fame. These two honestly changed the way we all
did things. Not single handedly, as there was an entire movement going on
across the North American continent, but surely they were some of the sports
greatest proponents and pioneers. Without them, I'm sad to say that our
sport likely wouldn't have ever been as badass as it is today. And while we
are all saddened by the fact that Shaun is no longer with us, it makes me
happy as hell to be able let people know that there is a project that just
might be able to pay tribute to one of the scene's forefathers. So a few old
timers were sitting around reminiscing about this car and the memories we all
all had of it. Jason said he could rebuild it. A bunch of people called him
out on that statement, and a dream was reborn. This car was one of the
most seen cars of it's time. From event rave cards, all the way to the cover
of turbo magazine. But it wasn't just a show car. It actually got raced, even
with that crazy *** paint job. The car had a 1.5 litre SOHC in it, and went
all the way to 10.29 @ 149.59 at an event - 10.09 testing. Not bad for what
seems like a lifetime ago.
Jason and a few other friends want to rebuild this car. As close to original
as parts and time will allow. If you want to follow along please go to
https://www.facebook.com/pages/CRX-B...58777104188895 and like the
build. Don't forget you can click, on the like button under this post as well.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the trip down memory lane.

Man!!! This car was way ahead of its time.. I mean who was thinking of wire tucking back then? Who would have the nerve to cut up a real Mugen body kit?? Only Jason & Shaun I guess...

That car was ahead of its time. I think it was hard to appreciate it fully even back then because most didnt understand what it took to build a car like that. Looking back at it, I realize that I see it in much more detail and than I did when I saw it in person.
haha Don. we both said the same thing. LOL. we all feel the same about it i guess.

WOW! That's a monster still to this day.
Not a Mugen kit though, no wrap around bumper lenses and the mesh on the back is inside, just a WW kit.

What abt the mugen badge on the skirts? Did WW make indentations for that? 88-89 didnt have wrap around lenses. 90-91 did.

awesome ride! i believe it was also known as the worlds fastest chrome. lol i never saw it in person but i always remember drooling over it in the magazines. coolest part of the build was seeing them strip and prep the bare shell in a (i think shauns) front yard. loved how the early race cars had the show and go look. cars like the bergenholtz crx, jeremys l'natural crx, the kubo civic, kenny trans civic etc would be running killer times one weekend then put on the street wheels, shine it up and be at HIN the next!

Clayton thank you for posting this up - yes we are in the planning stage of a Copy_Build for the Nuformz Crx....this is something the V8 world does but the Sport Compact has not one yet.
I would love to keep you all posted here and on FB page and Onecamonly

Looking for companies that are interested in the rebuild as we speak

That car was so clean and like most of you have said when I looked at pics of it back in late 90's I had no clue what it took to build something so nice.
Glad to hear you are thinking about doing a rebuild.

I remember that car...i used to have pics of it up on my wall when i was a senior in high school. Anyone have a link to or know what all was done to the car? Cool as hell to se it rebuilt. Is it gonna be the same car? Or is it another CR-X thats being formed into the old one?

I still have the Turbo mags following the build and the feature. One of my favorite cars from back then, glad to see it being rebuilt.
